But I have seen around 29mpg out of a 1996 3.8 camaro manual trans. This was all highway driving at right around 60mph. And this was confirmed over several trips back and forth from LA to Las Vegas.

And yes nobody on I-15 liked us in the camaro driving 60 when the speed limit is 75 and everyone wants to drive 90.

Main reason I skipped on buying a camaro is they still get like 16mpg in town regardless how you drive them.

30 mpg doesnt seem unreasonable in a 3800 camaro. In high school a friend had a 3.8 M5 Camaro. We dogged the hell out of it and he normally saw mid 20s. I figure one that was actually properly maintained and drove like a normal person could easily see high 20s to very low 30s.

The problem with the 3.8 camaros is most of them have "true duals" or "straight pipes" or a flowmaster welded in and they sound like hell when you get them above about 3500rpms. Some of the quieter exhausts can sound much less offensive though. Its funny because in almost all cases they sound decent til you get them high in the rpms.

Everytime I hear one drive by with exhaust I think "this thing is going to be a good sounding 3.8" then when the driver revs it or gets in the throttle I think "oh fooled me again."

Normal 3800 running around (watch to the end, I think yall will appreciate the ending)

This is another one I saw fit to add because of the previous reference to the sound of a cow being raped by a shotgun seems fitting

This one sounds decent

I have always wanted to do a turbo 3.8. Quite a few people are putting 15 psi to the L36 (N/A 3800s) and ZZP pushed a stock bottom end L67 (SC 3800s) into the 9s (maybe the 8s). Their FWD grand prix ran 8.97. but I dont remember if that was on the factory bottom end or not. They did build the bottom end, but the never found the limits of the factory one, and I cant remember were they where when the rebuilt it.

You could have a big boost ready V6 Camaro by throwing some L67 rods and pistons in it(only difference in the bottom end that matters.

So I just found out what a W12 actually looks like. What I had in my mind was way different. Also, caused me to look up what a VR6 looks like- was totally off base with that too. This is what triggered the revelation.

Are 4 of the cylinders not used? Or is this a W16?

Like a the 16 cylinder engine from a Veyron?

Actually, in response to FTB's point, this is a "proper" W12 engine, with three heads and a single crank:

These were somewhat common in Brisith aircraft during WW1.

Mazda even planned to build one back when they were building all kinds of fun stuff.

Mazda's 3981cc 12-cylinder engine in W configuration; having 3 banks of 4 cylinder (much like VW's W12). This engine was shown at the 1989 Tokyo motor and was intended for Mazda's Amati luxury brand that never materilized.
The engine was limited to 280hp and 274lb-ft of torque because of the Japan's gentleman's agreement, but keeping in tradition of Mazda's unique engine design history (rotary, miller cycle, etc) they decided to go with the W-configuration for their 12 cylinder. While the block is aluminum, the rest of the engine is mostly magnesium, and most interesting was that the cylinder was ceramic, and valves aluminum-Ceramic

The pic is a W16 from the Veyron. This picture led to talk of the W12 that VW makes which I found out is basically two VR6's in a 90 degree vee. The W16 is two W8's (In line; which I haven't heard of till today).

Yeah something like that, I guess. I've never really thought about it that much.

W8 block
