Here's an innovative design for an internal combustion engine. Please excuse it if you don't understand German, but there is some really cool engineering involved here.

 

Seems like the metal part with the holes on it will be a very high wear part.

Personally i like this design more and it would work however the dude got his head stuck up his own *** too high to realize that motor will not run at 50:1 compression ratio..

This is a little better video of how the MYT works. It's pretty interesting, but I'll believe it when I see it. Part of the issue is going to be the need for a redesigned transmission to take advantage of such a low RPM. It looks like a really simple engine to work on. I bet you could remove that from a car, completely tear it down, and rebuild it in a couple hours. Especially if it's the size of a soda can.

 

I was a part of that forum for a bit. How close minded the people were is the reason why i havent gone back in years. From memory it couldnt run on gas because it kept cracking the joint where the pistons are mounted to the center shaft. As you'd expect the common problems with a design operating at a crazy compression ratio like that would be knock. I told them that, i got a laugh from few people saying thats what makes it efficient.. well no **** you run a regular motor at 50:1 it will be quite efficient too. Anyhow i mentioned going lower CR to get it running and go from there and got laughed at.

Looking at that website it appears the project has plummeted because they couldnt make it work. They could have made it work when the hype was still quite high right after the fuel prices skyrocketed but now i have the feeling its pretty much dead.



The transmission wont be a problem, i'm sure if it would take off plenty of simple fixes will show up.
