I am very familiar with fracking and - as a person who tries first to find an objective understanding of the operational realities and is very non-ideological - I can tell you it is extremely frustrating to find good information.
Pretty much the only people interested in the subject are incredibly biased. You have environmental activists who object to anything remotely fossil-fuel oriented, sensationalist filmmakers who may have good intentions but bad information, and corporate interests that want to gloss over potential downsides.
I would argue strongly that the reality is somewhere in between, but much closer to the pros than the antis. That is why I said that I strongly hope that corporations take a long-term perspective and realize that spending more on safety compliance today means much better longer-term results.
Interestingly, Texas may have the strongest and best state regulations regarding the process as they have had the most experience with it (the technology in one form or another has been around for SIX decades).
This is not really the thread for it, but I am happy to discuss in detail elsewhere.

It's one thing to sarcastically say "Oh, yeah. I'm sure that these big, evil corporations have everyone's best interests in mind."
It's another thing entirely to be deluded into believing that the big, evil companies are run by complete idiots who are entirely ignorant of the strong tort system in the modern courts.
That being said, discussion of "Fracking" still beings to mind the wrong image for me...

But I also realize that it's not renewable and as a smelly hippie, I'd prefer something a little more .... a little less .... environmentally intrusive?
Something that might **** off someone like Donald Trump and ruin the view from his hotel in Scotland.
Incidentally, our house is using* 100% renewable energy sources.
* Yes I know the grid doesn't work that way.
Anyway, you're right, it doesn't belong here. Bonus picture:
