It's always like this. Traffic on the 5 North is just fine all through OC, and then literally as soon as you get to the sign that says "Los Angeles County Line," it comes to a halt.

You can't make this **** up:

Thought this was kind of an interesting hotel. Didn't grab many photos, actually, just two of the bed itself. Or more specifically, the wooden frame holding up the fru-fru thing above the bed:

I'm not sure if you can tell from the photo, but there's about an inch gap there and the thing's looser than hell. Gonna suck big-time when it comes down.

Way cool hotel, though. From the outside it looks like a shitty old Motel 6 or something. But on the inside, it's got this really cool pool / lounge / courtyard area. Groovy Latin music and a really eclectic mood, it's something I'd expect to see in an older part of San Juan or Miami, defiantly not here in Sillycon valley.

And this is also pretty cool:

I mean, it's obviously a Wal-Mart, which is not cool. But what's cool is what isn't in the picture- plastic bags. Same deal at Target. In fact, even the paper bags are not a go-to default. Unless you ask for one, the stuff just goes straight back into the cart. Little things like that make me smile, and remind me of my time in Germany.

Oh, and I'm dying to know what's behind this door:

Evil dust that's mean to electronics, I guess?

Ive heard that they will keep whole cleanroom facilities at above atmospheric pressure because its impossible to perfectly seal the place, so the alternative is to just make it impossible for anything to come in through the leaks.

They must have some interesting air-locks going on.

That's not terribly uncommon for many types of labs with sensitive testing equipment. Some equipment is sensitive to ppb or ppt, so they want to keep any and all contaminants out if possible. Not hard to create a slight positive pressure like that.

For some reason, I really want to see Tesla and SpaceX succeed.

I would be wary of Musk spreading himself too thin, but if he could actually bring to fruition high speed transport which might be a fraction of the cost of slow-high-speed rail project that is slated, that would be pretty awesome.

I might question the viability without provisions for public transport. Maybe Joe P. can comment on that.

Here in Central FL, they are instituting a commuter rail that will incorporate bike and car sharing stations to help alleviate our lack of quality public transport.

Sounds like a Kimpton Hotel.

Is this the lobby?

How the eff is there a slammed thread on mt.net?

In related news: I raced an 05 Mustang GT with Roush body kit and side exhaust on my way back from a trip to northern VA (on a closed track of course) and stomped him. We pulled over at a gas station and talked and he said he used to have a Mazdaspeed 3 and wants to trade his stang for a Miata and mentioned turboing it. I referred him here and told him we could go to Summit Point together and he said, "I just want to get a Miata and stance it, but that's not really good for handling" I just said, "Uh yeah, you shouldn't do that. And don't bother going to miataturbo if you're just trying to "stance" a Miata".

Are you sure it was a GT?

I knew a guy around here that had a V6 mustang and made it look like a Cobra R
