We were looking at the 6 Wagons, but decided we needed a few more MPG's. We went with an 03 Protege 5. Easily gets mid to low 30's, 5 speed, great rack. It's not too peppy but the handling is nice. If it had more power I'd enjoy driving it more than the Forester XT

I ended up with a manual Mazda 6 wagon. Kind of fell into my hands after figuring I would never find another. It was a pretty solid deal. New tires and brakes. Everything else in pretty good shape. I see what everyone means about the low RPM lack of torque. It should be a great DD.

The interior really isn't that bad for a 10 year old car. The Bose stereo is pretty awful but of the era. The pancake sub in the spare tire that blast mid-bass all day until you have a headache is a little annoying.

Now I just need a hitch bike rack. Anyone got a suggestion for the hitch? Kuat for the rack.
