Anyone go driving in the snow w/ their Miata?

I was on 66 in my prelude yesterday. I hit a patch of slush and the car lost complete traction. I just started strafing left towards the guardrail. Luckily I kept cool, let it coast and tried to steer it out and I was able to get traction and recover moments before I took out the side of the car.
I was really disturbed by the lack of treatment to 66. Some spots were completely clear while others had inches of slush and muck.
So I'll keep the miata under the tarp, thank you very much.

TurboTim: What about the Subaru? Wife driving it?
It's funny b/c probably at least half of us have some sort of Subaru-related story. I really miss my wagon. I've got snow tires on my Miata, but thanks to TurboTim, it's a bit too hairy to drive in this crapola. Plus, I think this is the last year I run this set of tires. They're 3 years old (decent tread) and I want the newer Blizzaks. Supposedly a decent upgrade from a few years ago.

January '07 in Van Horn, TX. The next day, I-10 was closed until 1-ish. I had to check out of my motel, so I packed my **** and spent some quality time sliding around town. Only stuck it in the ditch once. Gently.

So who here is actually running snow tires? I'm strongly considering running my Miata with a good set of snows, before I shell out the cash I'd like to know how it is.

I'm running Dunlop Graspics. 3rd season. They're a ton better in the snow than most all-seasons....but I saw a review on Tire Rack showing the newer Blizzaks are quite a bit better than the previous technology, and got the highest marks.
On my Subaru, the Nokian WRs were friggin' amazing in snow. They also cost $Texas$

bridgestone blizzaks. i wonder what the big 4x4 truck and SUV drivers going 40 on the freeway in 2" of fresh snow think when i pass them in a teeny little rear wheel drive sports car going 15 over the limit....in the unplowed left lane...
I like to imagine they cry at least a little inside.
it's 50% tire, 50% driver... most cars here in columbus, ohio have shitty tires on the wheels, and shitty drivers behind them

First night.
After driving 1000 miles from Tampa to MO I hit a snow storm. Not a good way to end an 1150 mile trip. I was scared due to my condition (lack of sleep) and never driving a torsen equipped car let alone a Miata with Dunlop Derizza DZ-101's. It was 3:30 to 6:00 AM and I was NOT going to ditch this thing after driving for 17 hours.
I have since had a more relaxing ride in the snow.

so you were right ed. flight wednesday cancelled. now rescheduled for friday.
