Default Autocross Videos 7/20/08 *Beware of autox newb action inside*

My 2nd autocross ever and my 2nd autocross at Nashville Super Speedway.
This is with the T3 60 trim, open downpipe (installing exhaust this week), and all new suspension without doing an alignment.
Only running wastegate pressure right now, so I'm at 7 psi. Running koni sports, GCs with 525/350 springs, RB hollow 1.125 front sway with brace kit and gearhead endlinks. No rear sway. Ride height at F12.75/R13.0".

The car handled surprisingly neutral with great control and I'm really happy with it. I can't wait to align it though to see what it really is capable of with proper adjustments. I really have no idea what my camber and toe settings are right now.

I'll be doing the alignment soon. I also depowered the steering and really haven't driven the car much at all. I had only driven it for about 30 minutes prior to the autocross so i'm still getting used to the steering let alone the new found handling with the suspension.

I'm also running the 6ULs with 205/50 RT615s, wish I had 225/45s but they did well. I will have to post my results when they get put on the website. I got better throughout the day, spun the car one, hung the *** out hardcore a couple times and all around had a great time. I have a long long ways to go concerning driver skill but it was a real blast.

It was hot as hell though 95* or hotter all day. I'm sun burned as hell from it and probably still dehydrated from sweating out all my fluids throughout the day.

I was fortunate to meet a guy there with the video camera, he was nice enough to take these videos and then post them on youtube.

Looks like fun. How many runs were you able to get in? Autocross is great but it would be tough for me to devote an entire day to 3 runs.

We had 7 runs my slowest time was 72.X and my fastest was 68.2. Pretty good place to autocross. Plenty of runs and they're fairly long. I can't wait to do a track day though.

Car looked good Chad. Get the alignment sorted and I'm sure it will be even better. Hopefully the heat wont be as brutal the next time.

Alignment and corner weighting! 7 runs is nice. Particularly liked it was a long course. Most of them around here are in the high 40's low 50's. A course well over a minute is great.

Get to a road course ASAP!

Yeah now that I'm working for APR Motorsports I'm thinking it would be worth it for me to drive the car down to Auburn and use their alignment equipment. They have a set of longacre scales, camber/caster gauges, stringbox and toe plates. With that combination I would rather spend $100 on a badass weekend road trip to align my car then $150 to a guy i've never met.

I think i'm going to do a FM style depower on the rack before I do the alignment though, need to get on that.

Thumbs up

Very nice..... throw that "N" away for SM2, PAX is a killer for our Miatas. We are only a few tenths away from the FMod gurus. I don't make the PAX, but I always hated having to beat the Subys by 5 or 6 seconds just to make up for the PAX. I mean winning is winning, and raw times speak for themselves. But, hey, it does even out the playing field.....

Key phrases for Autocrossing- "Squeal good, Squawl bad...for the tires."
"Go slow to go fast" - took me a while to figure that one out.
"You can make a good Autocrosser into a great track driver, but not necessarily make a good track driver into a great Autocrosser."
Good luck and have fun.....
