Yuengling has a very large brewery in Tampa that aids in their distribution in the southeast. I'm guessing that is why it is easy to find in Florida. It is actually right next door to Busch Gardens.

was at a bar with a great beer selection last week and a dude walks up and orders a "black & tan" (not from a single bottle/tap) and the whole bar collectively shook its head in disappointment.

two days ago I had a Weihenstephaner Dunkel-weizen and a taste of a Duck Rabbit amber ale. the latter was nice with just a little malty goodness.

We have a spot like there here in Greenville, SC called Barleys. Over 50's on tap and another 75 bottled. No domestic cheap beer either. Awesome place. One of my favorites that I have tried as of late has been the Sweet Water 420. However, I still reserve my number one spots for Unfiltered Wheat Ales and Hefe-Weisens... Mmmmmmmm.......

seriously, the guy walked up to the bar and ordered a B&T and the bartender asks him what kind of beer he wants in it (they had guinness but not bass) and the guy says, "anything dark and malty" and the bartender was like "uhhh we have X and Y and..." (suggesting english ale alternatives -- ie the lighter beer BECAUSE THEY HAD GUINNESS) and the guy is like "oh duh you have guinness" and he ended up with some random good beer under the guinness and probably didn't know what the fuck was going on because he was some dumb noob.

Weak-sauce regardless... I have been on a quest as of late to try as many different beers as I can. So far as of November I am at 101 different varieties... Still have a fridge full of ones I have yet to try however. :D

With all this snow there's nowhere to go, so it's a good time to catch up on my beer drinking. Last night I had a 2009 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. It seemed a tad hoppier than some previous vintages but that's just my memory. I still have some 2008 and one bottle of 2007 left, but I didn't feel like doing a vertical tasting last night.

Tonight I'm drinking a bottle of Chimay Grand Reserve. I deserve it after shoveling all this damn snow. Yes, I'm using a New Belgium glass because I don't own a Chimay glass, but it gets the job done. This one definitely lacks the complexity of the Rochefort I posted earlier, but this Chimay ain't too shabby and it has the advantage of being readily available around here. This isn't my favorite of the Chimay offerings (that would be the Cinq Cents tripel) but I picked up this one since it had been a couple years since I've had it. This one is the darkest of the Chimays, and has a more malty profile with some roasty flavor. Definitely not as fruity as their other ales, but it still has that good yeasty estery aroma.

Had it sitting around for a while, finally got the courage to try it, if you aren't familiar with Kopi Luwak, google it. It was surprisingly good.

PS, ScottFW, would you like a Chimay glass? I can pick one up for you next time I'm buying beer if you do.

1975 (yes, '75 no typo) liefmans Kriek, been stored in a deep dark cool cellar at a perfect 15 degrees for 35 years (sediment has blackened the green bottle where the beer settled, still have the bottle, truly amazing.)

Welcome anytime...I love beer, and not having a miata here has pretty much let me devote 98% of my time (while not at work) and money to booze. To top it off I'm off of work until 23march for medical leave, had PRK (eye surgery) this morning, I'm already fine (obviously I'm ont he computer) So I think I'm going to spend some time traveling around Belgium some more and probably end up in Dublin for St Patty's day.

No. Well, the cheap Germans like it, I see it a lot of places, but the beer market is pretty diverse when it comes to bars, Kirner, Paulaner, Bitburger, Franziskaner, they all have a pretty big chunk of the market (think bud/miller/coors-ish type situation.)

The Belgians are the ones that truly appreciate their alcohol, although I did meet a 32 year old guy in The Kulminator (very VERY nice specialty beer bar in Antwerpen, Belgium where the above vintages were) who had lived in Belgium his whole life and tried Westvleteren (pretty much unanimously voted best beer int he world by just about anybody who is anybody) for the first time with me Saturday night, so it's one of those things where they don't really appreciate what they have because it's so common in my opinion.

Too bad shipping would brutalize the price of getting you to send some beer this way... Otherwise I would be ALL over it. Planning on endulging myself when I get home. Not sure what on though.
