If you come down on a Friday we can get some people together for a Brewery Tour in Blanco. Plus, it's free.

two new delicious beers of late:
Green Flash Brewing Co Hop Head Red Ale (san diego) I like my ales with just a touch of malt and a smattering of hops and this nails it pretty well. It's maybe a little bitter-er than average but very drinkable. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lCrjr42cSg...sh_hophead.jpg The Brewer's Art "Resurrection" Abby-style Ale (Baltimore, MD) This is a super tasty ale. Drinkable like the hop head, but with a smoother finish. it plays up the more sweet flavors of the malt instead of the bitter of the hop without being "sweet" at all. It is pretty much what I'm looking for when I want an ale. The waitress told me "it's dark like guiness" when I asked what it was... very glad how wrong she was. It was friggin delicious. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_vbczmt9LYR...rt%2BRezzy.jpg |
I'm drinking #4 again.

I just realized that my post of Resurrection was resurrecting this thread.

Kloster Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel, one of three I "tasted" less than 500 yards from the brewery about 45km outside of Munich, Germany today. You get a liter or nothing when you get a beer here, awesomeness.

mmmmmmmm doppelbocks...
New Belgium Brewing Company comes through again. Last night I tried the Mothership Wit for the first time; it is part of a New Belgium combo pack being sold at Costco. I have a thing for beers with coriander in them and this one is no exception. It is on the light side but really tasty. I think I will go get one right now. http://w.newbelgium.com/files/beergl...png?1229380416 I am not one of those organic types. I just like the beer. |

Unibroue Don de Dieu. Triple wheat ale. A little sweet and wheaty with that 9% warmth. Their website says it goes well with meats and cheeses and charcuterie. I'm drinking it with cold pizza (extra pepperoni). Close enough. |
Bought a case of the Costco beer last night:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3629/...a50f14485b.jpg Have only tried the Amber Ale and Hefe. Both were mediocre. The Amber Ale was better than any cheap American brand, but worse than any micro that I've had. The Hefe was a major let down, but still better than Bud Light Wheat. I don't like Pale Ales so we'll see how the German Larger is. Overall, good for the price ($18.99 + $1.57 TX tax = ~$.85/beer). Buy it for parties or for your friends that need to try new beers but won't appreciate the good stuff. Chris |
I'm surprised the hefeweizen was no good, I've yet to find one over here I don't like more than ANY US beer.

I have been searching for y8s suggestion "Dom De Dieu" but have not yet encountered it locally. I'm still working on finishing a case of Spaten "Oktoberfest Ur-Marzen" and a case of Blue Moon's "Honey Moon Summer Ale" that I got from the freight sale at the class six store on base - $6.99 a case! They discount them drastically when they get close to expiration of the freshness date. |
