Went to Georgia this weekend and found an 18 pack of Bud Select leftover from the end of wakeboarding season in the fridge up there. Born on date of August '08. I brought it back with me.
It's not a connoisseur's beer to start with, and it's not fresh. But "times is hard." I'll drink it while I'm sucking down all of this pollen and can barely breathe through my nose anyway. I've got to finish getting the boat ready, and there's yellow dust everywhere. |
contrary to Nate Silver's analysis, it is always justifiable to purchase good beer in my house.

last night's beer of the day:
http://www.hopmonk.com/graphics/beer/hmd.gif Hopmonk Dunkelweizen ABV 5.2% Bavarian-style Dark Wheat Beer Unfiltered, top-fermented wheat beer brewed with dark roasted malted wheat and caramelized malted wheat in addition to pale malted barley. The complex flavors produced by the Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen yeast strain are enhanced by the roasted flavors from the dark malts. Hopmonk Tavern :: A celebration of beer, food, music and people. |

Tonight's choice: Breckenridge Vanilla Porter...
|
Do they add vanilla to a porter? I like both ingredients, so do tell what it is like.
|
Black & Tans with Killians and Guinness tonight :)
Dinner is almost done too! (Corned beef and cabbage) Happy St. Patricks Day! |
ok last yesterday's choice. and be warned: this is epic.
http://gallery.y8s.com/d/21424-1/DSC00047.JPG everything they brew. 12 beers in little glasses (they had 15 but we've already had the other 3) http://gallery.y8s.com/d/21426-1/DSC00048.JPG that's... well shit here: » Anderson Valley Brewing Company - The Legendary Boonville Beers summer solstice isn't out yet though but we did get some of their specials which are not bottled unless noted: AVBC Pilsner 20th Anniversary Imperial IPA (brought home a 22oz!) Belgian White Fresh Hop Pale Ale (hops grown on site) Port Barrel aged Stout (aged 7 yrs in port barrels) that last one was, at first, kinda bizzare but it totally grew on me. had a very wine-like sweet aftertaste that just hung out in your mouth. unfortunately it's a VERY limited supply and they only bottled 150 bottles plus whatever is there at the brewery. and we didn't get a growler full. then later that day? a few beers Russian River Brewing Company (Santa Rosa, CA) makes. http://russianriverbrewing.com/wordpress/ lets see... Pliny the Elder (double hop but double delish) Consecration (dark ale aged in cab sauv barrels--SUPER sour and makes your jaw hurt) Redemption (delicious belgian blonde ale) Damnation Batch 23 (golden ale aged on oak chips) OVL Stout (nice small batch stout) ... I'd say that is a pretty fucking good beer day! (note that this omits visiting 5 wineries on a wine tour on friday. hustler can start a wine of the day thread for that...) |
PS: serious props to my gf for being the inspiration behind the beer lust.

The usual chocolate and nutty flavors of a porter with a vanilla finish. - They add vanilla bean to the wort... Quite tasty! - L |

I have been working my ass off for the last month, 12-16 hour days for the last two weeks getting ready for a very important client visit (cannot share details, not yet). One more work day today, in full business suit attire, and then I am on vacation... I think I will be picking up some choice beer on the way home from work this evening to celebrate. |
Well, Monday is my last day at the current gig. - I guess that gives me all weekend to empty the beer shelf...
- L PS - Not quite all doom and gloom. I do have a couple of leads that looks solid. However, I don't have an offer letter in hand. (Yet...) |
last nights beers:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3367/...ff3e2b17a3.jpg http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full_size/16129.jpg First, the Hairy Eyeball from Lagunitas. I didn't get to go there when I was in Petaluma, but I shoulda. Anyway, the beer was described to me as a porter but the bartender was so far off. It was more of a dark, strong ale with lots of malt. It was on the thick side and somewhat sweet. Second, (yes, I was in the "H" section) was the H&I. I really liked this with my mac and cheese w/ham. It's an unfiltered hopped beer. And it was very smooth and drinkable. A little bitter, a little hoppy, a little fruity, but none overwhelming. Color was a nice orangey amber with cloudiness. It would be a great beer to keep in the workshop because of its low ABV and high drinkability and enjoyable flavor. |

LOL @ Mickey's. In college I was more of an OE 800 guy myself. But we did buy a boatload of Mickey's for a party one time, after we photoshopped my buddy's license from SC (not very intricate) to make him 21. Printed it out on a garden variety inkjet and laminated it. Maybe the clerk was fooled, or maybe he just didn't give a shit, but it worked. Like most people who drink Mickey's, we were underage and desperate.
Laurelwood, a microbrewery in Portland, made a malt liquor that I tried at the OBF a few years ago. It was pretty damn good, but still a malt liquor. Last night I had a Hofbrau maibock: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_VxkLAUCH7p...0/DCP05052.JPG Just a touch less malty than I like in a maibock but otherwise good. |

Last nights brew: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2364/...d22ac7.jpg?v=0 Not my favorite, but then again I'm not really much of a stout fan. Chris |

please, post a smaller pictures so we can't read the label. Also, provide no comments on the beer dranking experience.

the other day I walked into the market around the corner and the owner's son was pouring free beer from Star Hill (Charlotte NC). they have a damn good and very smooth stout. try it YOU LIKE IT.
they also gave away two kegs of the stuff. no cost to enter. only like 20 entries total. I must enter all future drawings. and get a kegerator. I love my neighborhood. |
Fine, fine. :friday:
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1103/...101189.jpg?v=0 I'd give it a 8 out of 10, on par with the Celebrator. Very smooth, not too thick or bitter, very high drinkability for it's alcohol content. A beer solid beer with a great after taste. Wiki Chris |

Maniac,
Something weird happened to me in Austin...I started drinking beer again. I've been on nothing but wine for about 3-years but suddenly I discovered a bunch of awesome stuff from that area and started drinking beer again. Too bad the weather sucks, the land is flat, there are no tracks, the people are mean, and the rent is high. |

The DB admin here at work found out I knew a bit about Miatas and asked why his leg kept getting hot in his 94. He had the car to a few garages and they couldn't fix the problem. I told him it was the rubber boot on the shifter. Today I find this on my desk, in a nice "Forty sized paper bag".

I had this brew at a bar with over 100 beers on tap, its called anti gravity beer. I was already pretty happy by the time I had it, so obviously it was delicious.

Total Gourmet beer thread. Doesn't anybody drink normal beer? I go in "kicks", right now I am on a Rolling Rock Kick. My biggest kick is for Yuengling Black and Tan. My favorite draft beer I think I'd say would be either Guinness or Killian's Irish Red. My favorite bottled beer would have to be St. Pauli Girl. My favorite canned beer is cheap shit. It's either Miller High Life, Pabst Blue Ribbon, or Keystone Light. Steel Reserve SUCKS ASS. Old Milwaukee is alright. Coors original is ok. Coors Light sucks. Anything with a lime in it SUCKS. Miller products are alright. Yuengling products KICK ASS. nuff said.
|
That's just it... you can find most common beers anywhere. It's easy to try them all. However if you want something more unique, you're hard-pressed to find it without searching it out specifically.
My "normal" fallbacks are corona w/lime and MGD if there's nothing else available. |

This is one of my all time favorite bottle beers. I love pilsners and this baby is 7%.

My brother and I were (slowly) killing a few of these last night. A little maltier than their normal stout with an excellent finish.
|
I am still deciding what beer to have for my first drink when I get back from the deployment.
|
My friend was telling me that the best beer he ever drank was Sam Adam's Cream Stoudt. Anyone ever indulge into a bottle of this? I usually frown on Sam Adam's products as they are way too hoppy for my liking, but a cream stoudt sounds pretty good.
|
Samuel Adam's and Steel Reserve are good. Some how though, I always end up with a Budweiser, lol.
|
I have held my nose and finished a few lousy beers in my time (because I won't waste one), but I had to poor Steel Reserve down the sink. It was lousy and had no redeeming qualities. And I will drink anything from Natty Light to Mickey's to cream stouts to Abt. 12 to Paulaner Hefe-Weizen.
|
last night was flying dog's belgian white. EFF YOU BELGIUM!
