Haha! The brews in question are made by Founders. That's the only hint I will give for now.

I'm a firm believer that Keystone Light is an acceptable breakfast food due to its cereal-like taste. 9 a.m. going wild with the brewz 'cause I have no responsibility.

thirdgen 11-11-2010 10:39 AM

I had keystone light all last week, I was diggin it. Always smooth. I shoulda dressed up as Keith Stone for Halloween.
Here's my quote of the day:

"Keystone light is a crafty brew that goes well accompanied with ritz crackers stacked with pepper Jack cheese and sardines in hot sauce."

I recently had a brown ale from 2 Beers brewery, I had never heard of them before but it was delicious!

Go to the grocery store and buy some.

Bryce 11-12-2010 01:46 AM

I picked up this black lager by riding my 36" uni to the corner store. The clerk had never seen a unicycle before outside of TV. Lol.

I'll have some on Saturday. It's the Gf's 21'st birthday party. :)

I would recommend Porter or Black and Tan if you decide to try any Yuengling products.

No idea, but I can read that it's brewed with licorice and molasses. It sounds so delicious, my mouth is watering right now.

Deschutes Brewery: The Abyss Is amazing stuff, one of my favorite Impy Stouts after that bottle for sure. it was a 2008 reserve but I've been told that all years are equally as delicious. Should be fairly easy to track down in the States. Brewed in Oregon FWIW so easier on the west coast I would imagine.

thagr81 us 11-23-2010 08:23 AM

Glad to see it was a 2008 vintage... My 2009 I got in a trade was infected. :( Have a 2008 in my cellar though. :D Sorry for the delay... I've been BUSY at work lately.

RJ Rockers Bourbon Oak Bell Ringer: B+
"White oak chips soaked in Maker's Mark Bourbon. Had at the brewery during one of their taste and tour events. Served from firkin into an RJ Rockers shaker. Poured orange with a minimal white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, wood chips, and a very slight bourbon note. The flavor was of sweet malt, wood, nutty, and a very slight bourbon on the followthrough. It had a light feel on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this was a pretty nice brew. The white oak and bourbon aspect of this one definitely added a very nice flavor and aroma to the regular Bell Ringer and helps to bring all of the flavors together much better. This one is a definite must try if they brew it again."

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2537/...dea07bde_o.png
Olde Hickory/Duck-Rabbit/Foothils Olde Rabbit's Foot 2010: A-
"Served from tap at the ORF '10 release party into a Foothills pilsner. Poured pitch black with a hint of red when held in the light with a one finger tan head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of slightly roasted malt, sweet malt, and alcohol. The flavor was of roasted malt, alcohol, and cream. It had a medium feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a very good and well balanced brew. The aroma and flavors on this one were very nice to put it lightly. Glad I got the chance to drink this one on tap. A must try for any stout fan out there."

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4035/...7f7d6e0c3d.jpg
Foothills Sexual Chocolate: A+
"2010 Vintage. Served from tap at the brewpub into a Foothills pilsner. Poured pitch black with a hint of brown when held up in the light with a minimal light tan head. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, chocolate, and subtle alcohol. The flavor was of roasted malt, chocolate, and cream. It had a heavy feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this is quite the excellent brew. This one has a lot of hype surrounding it, even outside of the beer community for good reason. There is not very much missing in either the aroma or flavor in it. This is a definite must try if you can get your hands on it."

Founder Black Biscuit: A
"Served from tap into a goblet at the Founders event at Duckworth's in Charlotte. Poured black as sin with a minimal light light tan head. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, bourbon, and chocolate. The flavor was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, chocolate, molasses, slight vanilla, and bourbon (this wasn't barrel aged!? WHA!?!?!?). It had an extremely heavy (almost syrupy) feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this one was QUITE excellent and probably my second favorite brew of the event (CBS being #1). The flavors in this one were very nicely balanced and I was surprised that this one wasn't barrel aged as the flavor would make you think otherwise. It did take a good bit of warming up for the aroma to make its way through though, but once it did it was quite nice as well. The heavy mouthfeel was almost a turn-off for me, but the mild carbonation helps to break it up and make it quite drinkable. Big thanks to Duckworth's for giving me the opportunity to try this one!"

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4005/...b806a6c136.jpg
Founder Canadian Breakfast Stout: A+
"Served from tap into a goblet at the Founders event at Duckworth's. Poured pitch black with a minimal tan head. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, smoke, wood, molasses, and slight alcohol. The flavor was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, coffee, alcohol, and a smokey note on the followthrough. It had a heavy creamy feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this beer blew me away. This might be one of the better Imperial Stouts I've had to date. I loved how the mouthfeel on this one was both heavy and creamy at the same time making is scarely drinkable. This brew had an awesomely well balanced flavor and nice aroma to boot. Seriously, what else could you want in a beer? This is a must try if you have never had it before and if you have and are like me, you want MORE!"

http://amm002.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/dsc02406.jpg
Founder Kentucky Breakfast Stout: A
"Served from tap into a goblet at the Founders event at Duckworth's. Poured a deep dark brown basically black with a minimal tan head. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, bourbon, brown sugar, and molasses. The flavor was of roasted malt, spices, bourbon, and molasses. It had a medium feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this is and always will be quite an excellent brew. This one that we had could use a little age on it to help mellow out the bourbon flavor some as it was quite hot. Still great regardless of this fact with a pretty awesome flavor and nice aroma to go along with it. Glad I got to try this one on tap."

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3287/...48306a875b.jpg
Founder Backwoods Bastard: A-
"Served from tap into a goblet at the Founders event at Duckworth's. Poured reddish-brown with a minimal off-white head. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt and bourbon. The flavor was of sweet malt, alcohol, and syrup. It had a medium feel on the palate with light to mild carbonation. Overall this one was very nicely balanced with a nice flavor. The aroma on this one was quite nice as well. Probably one of my favorite Scotch Ales to date. It is also crazy drinkable to weigh in at 10.2%..."

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/...6b64822dca.jpg
Founder Nemesis 2009: A-
"Big thanks to cpetrone84 and Exiled for the chance to have multiple bottles of this one that were sent to me as extras in past trades! Served from bottle into a Delerium Tremens snifter. Poured a very hazy yellow-orange with a minimal off-white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of massively sweet malt, good vodka, and molasses. The flavor was of sweet malt, alcohol, molasses, and sugar. It had a heavy feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a very nice brew. However, the booze on this thing was quite intense even with a year of age on it. To put it lightly this thing will lay a BEATING on your liver without a doubt. The sweetness aspect with the sugar on the followthrough helps to cut through the alcohol though. Has a good aroma, but despite smelling vodka (should have been my first hint), it didn't prepare me of the alcohol flavor I was about to experience. Should be great in another year or two without doubt."

http://barbeerians.com/wp-content/up...66-450x600.jpg
Founder Nemesis 2010: A-
"Served from tap into a goblet at the Founders event at Duckworth's. Poured deep dark brown almost black with a minimal off-white head. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of slightly roasted malt, sweet malt, and slight hops. The flavor was of sweet malt, alcohol, dark fruit, and slight hops. It had a medium feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a nice brew. I could see this one aging pretty well over the next year or so. It had a nice flavor and good aroma to it. I have a few bottles that I will be aging after having this one on-tap for sure."

Cigar City Cubano Espresso Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale: A+
"Served from tap into a Dogfish Head stout glass, enjoyed with JackTheBear on a recent trip to Athens, GA. Poured a deep dark brown with a one finger tan head. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of BIG espresso, coffee, and cream. The flavor was of roasted malt, espresso, coffee beans, cream, and chocolate. It had a medium-heavy feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this brew was quite excellent. Since I personally don't drink coffee, I could see this as being a damn fine substitute. Had an excellent aroma and flavor on this one. Very well balanced even for a non-coffee drinker. The aroma was almost intoxicating it was so rich. Also it went down nice and smooth leaving you craving more. Very nice brew CCB!"

ScottFW 11-23-2010 09:38 AM

I will have to see if the Founders stuff is available at my local stores. I don't believe I've had any of their brews before.

Last night I had a Full Sail Sanctuary, Belgian style dubbel. Not bad, had a nice foundation of malt and had some fruity estery elements, but lacked some of the funk that I usually associate with the style. It did kind of taste like an American attempt to brew a Belgian, though it was pretty decent overall.

thagr81 us 11-23-2010 09:44 AM

Scott, out of the ones from Founders I listed you should be able to find Backwoods Bastard and Nemesis 2010. If you are VERY lucky, maybe Kentucky Breakfast Stout. The Nemesis 2009 has been on the shelves for over a year and is rare to see around anymore. The others are pretty rare (especially Black Biscuit) and are served on-tap only unfortunately. :(

KPLAFIN 11-23-2010 11:44 AM

Looks like a nice night for sure, I'm not a huge Founder's fan but the last '09 Nemesis I had was quite delicious. Jealous of the Sexual Chocolate for sure. I may have to make a trip down to NC/SC while I'm home in December to check out some good beer bars.

Brian: Hit me up if/when you make your way down... I can suggest some spots and might be able to join you for some brews.

Jay: Hellz yes! I have a few bottles I got in some past trades. Quite tasty. I do however prefer their Wild Ales though (Supplication particularly).

Split: I hate you... Guessing that is the Vanilla version? I have one bottle on the way from a regular trading partner, but just one. :(

Haha! I LIVE for limited releases... Went to Foothills Baltic Porter, Foothills Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate, and Olde Hickory/Duck-Rabbit/Foothills Olde Rabbit's Foot releases this year alone. Going to COAST Blackbeerd, COAST Barrel Aged Blackbeerd, and Foothills Sexual Chocolate for sure next year. Might even hit up Darkness and Dark Lord Day too... Sigh.

Damnation - Can't wait, I have two bottles in my "cellar" upstairs, just waiting for one of them to provoke me to drink it.

Bourbon County - Still on my wants list, I'll track some down eventually.

I may take you up on that offer, just depends on how my time works out while I'm at home, only one person even knows I'm coming home so that should make it a little easier to avoid being fully booked this trip home. Still trying to find somewhere good to do my New Year's celebrating, may make a road trip out of that one if nothing else.

Good deal, I almost grabbed my Veritas 007 instead but decided I want to give that some time to mature before I crack it. I feel like I've asked before but can't remember your answer, are you a fan of Gueuze/Lambics at all? I'm guessing if you like Wild Ales you are.

3 Fonteinen Millenium Gueuze. When/if you can find it HERE, it goes for around 150 euro a bottle. I have a bottle sitting in a wine cooler in Virginia that I want to drink on New Year's Eve this year, I may be making a trip to SC for New Year's....see where this is going? haha

In the process of having a weekend full of sours with a good buddy from college. By tomorrow we should be 10 sours in. I will post up when I get back to work on Monday or Tuesday. Also if any of you guys ever want to try something I post up and can't get it where you are, let me know and we can setup a trade. I have completed 34 on BeerAdvocate with another 5-6 pending with a few more being planned so I can help you with packaging advice, etc.

KPLAFIN 11-28-2010 03:29 PM

What would it take to get you to let a bottle of that GI Bourbon County go split?

EDIT: Expecting a full rundown on the sours you had and a wish list of any of the NOT super-rare sours you might want from over here and I'll see what I can do for you and your buddy's next sour night, I was blown away when I saw the price of good Belgian sours in the States. Stuff I can get for 4-5 euro a bottle was going for crazy prices like $35-40/bottle.

thagr81 us 11-29-2010 01:38 PM

Long weekend of new brews for me. Here goes...

http://justbeer.files.wordpress.com/...if?w=400&h=600
Allagash Confluence Ale: B+
"January 2009 Vintage. Served from bottle into a Duvel tulip. Poured a hazy deep yellow with a four finger massively fluffy off-white head that actually bulged up larger and larger in the middle of the glass but very very slowly subsided to one finger with lots of sitting. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, dark fruit, and funk. The flavor was of sweet malt, sour funk, and subtle fruit. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall there were some very interesting notes going on in this one. I really had mixed feelings on it. In my opinion there was just too much 'funk' in this one and not enough sour/tart going on. Good, but just not all that awe-inspiring. Interlude is still my favorite offering in this category from Allagash."

http://www.drunkenpolack.com/images/brabant.JPG
Avery Brabant: A-
"Bottled on February 10, 2009; 694 cases produced. Served from bottle into a Duvel tulip. Poured dark brown with a minimal tan head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, sour funk, oak, and an earthy note. The flavor was of sweet malt, smooth funk, and a woody note. It had a medium feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this one was quite nice. You can totally get the wood aspect of this from the barrel. The woody note helps to mellow out the funk flavor if you aren't really a fan of it. This is a pretty nice brew that I'm glad I got the opportunity to try."

http://www.drunkenpolack.com/images/thevine.jpg
Cascade The Vine: A
"Served from bottle into a Duvel tulip. Poured a hazy yellow orange with a minimal white head. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt and a sour note only. The flavor was of sweet malt, sour, and subtle apple. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was an excellent example of the style in my opinion. It had a very nice flavor and good aroma going on here. I really enjoyed the fact that there wasn't really a funk to this one and just sour notes. Hope to try more offerings from Cascade in the future as this one set the bar pretty high. This was the favorite of my buddy and I of the nine sours/wild ales we tasted and reviewed this weekend."

http://www.bruisin-ales.com/beerblog...d_mountian.jpg
Highland Cold Mountain Winter Ale: A-
"2010 Vintage. Served from a 1-liter swing-top bottle into a Stone nonic. Poured a deep copper with a one finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, cloves, coriander, and caramel. The flavor was of sweet malt, cloves, chocolate, and caramel. It had a light feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this one had some pretty nice spice mixtures going on here. It was very well balanced up-front and then came through with the typical warmer spices on the tailend. This one is a must try if you are a fan of winter warmers."

http://www.frothyhead.com/var/plain_...eer_medium.jpg
Brouwerij Van Steenberge Monk's Café Flemish Sour Red Ale: B+
"Served from bottle into a Duvel tulip. Poured a dark brown with a one finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt and an earthy sour funk. The flavor was of sweet malt, an earthy sour funk, and sugar on the followthrough. It had a light-medium feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was pretty interesting. It had a nice flavor and good aroma going on here however the earthy note to the sour/funk was quite interesting. This one is a must try for any fan of the style or even if you like really earthy flavors. Might actually be a good gateway into sours if you are an earthy lover."

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_LP3Vuwd6rxg/S2...osh%20Beer.jpg
New Belgium Lips of Faith La Folie: A-
"Served from growler into a Duvel tulip. Poured a deep dark brown with a minimal off-white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt and sour funk. The flavor was of sweet malt, tart, and sour. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was quite the nice sour brew. It had a good aroma and nice flavor going on here. The sour note comes on pretty strong after a nice tart note. My buddy who split the growler with me complained of it being a little too sour on the followthrough, but I found it pretty nice. Growler went down with ease... Regardless, this is a must try for any sour fan out there."

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3305/...a8f8b60bc6.jpg
Ommegang Ommegeddon: B
"Batch #4; May 2009. Served from bottle into a Duvel tulip. Poured a dark yellow-orange with a two finger slightly off-white head that subside to half a finger slowly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, funk, and slight golden apple. The flavor was of sweet malt, funk, dark fruit, and alcohol. It had a medium feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this one wasn't that bad, but it also wasn't that great either. The followthrough was kind of pungent with alcohol while cold, but mellowed out just a hint upon warming up. Decent aroma and flavor here, but nothing too memorable though."

Petrus Aged Pale: A-
"Served from bottle into a Duvel tulip. Poured a hazy yellow-orange with a one finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt and slight funk. The flavor was of sweet malt, tart, sour, and slight wood. It had a light feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this is quite an excellent brew for the style. I have had this more times than I care to remember, and will be having again in the future I'm sure. Just an all-around great representation of the style. Has a nice flavor and aroma here and is a must try for any sour fan out there or a fan of the style."

"Served from bottle into a Duvel tulip. Poured deep brown with a half finger tan head that subsided to a minimal amount fairly quickly. Maintains decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma is comprised of sweet malt and slight sour funk. The flavor was of sweet malt, slight sour, and fruit on the followthrough. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this brew was pretty nice and smooth. Had a nice flavor, but the aroma was kind of weak as far as intensity. The flavor was very pleasing though and I would recommend this to anyone who likes the style without hesitation."

Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale: A
"2010 Vintage. Served from bottle into a Stone nonic. Poured yellow-orange with a one and a half finger off-white head that subsided to one finger very slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt and massive citrus/bitter hops. The flavor was of sweet malt, citrus hop, and subtle fruit upon swallowing. It had a medium feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this brew was quite excellent. Very good aroma and a very good flavor to back that up. Not a lot missing in any aspect on this one. Very well balanced flavor that messes together quite nicely. If you like anything hoppy and have not had this one before, get off your ass and do so..."

"Served from bottle into a Duvel tulip. Poured reddish-brown (similar to tea) with a minimal off-white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt and sour funk. The flavor was of sweet malt, tart, sour, and subtle fruit. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this brew was quite excellent. Really glad that Ed at The Community Tap suggested that I give this one a little while back. Very nicely balanced flavor and good aroma without doubt. Actually mine and my buddies second favorite brew out of all the sours we had this past weekend. A must try for any sour fan out there without a doubt."

Few of those I can't wait to get my hands on.. I'm not a fan of the La Folie SBA at all though, had it once and couldn't even finish a glass, let alone the bottle.

Having a few Mikkelers tonight, starting off with a Stateside, then I'm going for my Drinkin the Sun, who knows where after that.

Wow! This thread hasn't been updated since 11/29? That's Horse Shit.
Today I went to the local distributor. I usually don't find anything that tickles my tastebuds, but I usually end up walking out with a case of Yuengling Premium Cans. I call that "garage beer", cause I can invite my motorheaed friends over, and we can hang out in the garage. I wrench on my CRAP: (1950 Willys CJ-3A, or 1978 Triumph Bonneville) and just hang out and shoot the shit. Every now and then, the local distributor does get something I can buy and enjoy. Today was a double. I bought (1) case of Spaten Sample pack, which consisted of 1/4 Spaten Munich, 1/4 Spaten Optimator, 1/4 Spaten Dinkle?, and 1/4 Fransiskaner. $34.49. I was sold.
Then this:
Troegs variety pack:
4 different kinds of beer from Troegs Brewery, they're in the garage, and I'm too lazy to walk downstairs to tell you what 4.
You guys drink anything new?

Discovered a terrific new sour this past Sunday, on the recommendation of a friend here in Punta Gorda. If I'd have known it was a Lindeman's up front I'd have probably been prejudiced (most of their stuff is too damn fruity) but this one was a proper, wild-yeast Gueuze:

I bought a bottle of Cuvee (I'm a HUGE Lambic/Gueuze fan) and waited about 6 months to try it I was so scared of it being horrible. I was thoroughly impressed. It's nothing too terribly special, but with its price point and the fact that its a Lindeman's its really not all that bad. Good beer to get started in the Lambic world with.

I had a bunch of nice brews from US breweries while I was home (went home for three weeks for Christmas) Brooklyn Black Ops being one, FFF Alpha Klaus being another. Highly suggest trying both if you can find them.

Pretty useless post but maybe it will kick start the BOTD thread.

Recently bought a case of Buffalo Bills Blueberry Oatmeal Stout. It was 7.5% alcohol, didn't taste like an oatmeal stout at all, but rather like a pale bock lager that left a blueberry aftertaste with a hint of nutmeg. I was dissatisfied, but my IPA loving coworker went nuts over it.

I received a Winter Classics Sampler case of Samuel Adams selections for Christmas. I wasn't terribly excited about the chances of finding something I would really like because I'm not a Sam Adams fan. I found something that surprised me- Holiday Porter. It is more malty and sweeter than most Baltic or even English porters I have had and really reminds me of Old Rasputin, just a wee bit lighter. It is only available in the Winter Classics Cases (which sucks) but you might be able to find some of them around still. It was a nice find.

"Samuel Adams Holiday Porter is brewed using East Kent Goldings and Fuggles, traditional British ale hops, as well as the German Noble hop Spalt Spalter. It is dry hopped with Goldings hops to give an even more pronounced British hop character in both aroma and flavor. A small portion of flaked oats are also added to the brew’s complex blend of malt flavors. The oats help round off any roughness from the highly roasted malts and add a touch of silkiness to the finish."

The Chocolate Bock that also comes in the pack is also a pleasant surprise. I like the slightly sweet, dark richness of it. It is really nice to enjoy when you come in from outside when it is really cold out, like 50* or so...

"Smooth, rich, and dark, with the robust flavor and creamy texture of chocolate.

To create Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock, we wanted to take the flavor beyond the taste of dark roasted malt. For this year's brew we worked with a blend of cocoa nibs including Ecuador nibs from TCHO®, an artisanal chocolate maker in San Francisco. We started with hand selected Noble hops from Bavaria and combined them with a complex selection of carefully roasted malts. This dark beer has a big, malty character with the added sweetness of chocolate. We slowly age the beer on a bed of rare dark cocoa nibs, the primary ingredient in chocolate. Known for their quality, these cocoa nibs harvested in Ecuador, impart complex aromas and flavors from chocolaty to fruity, nutty, earthy, and citrusy."

Surprisingly, I would buy both again without hesitation.

I really enjoyed the Chocolate Bock I had in December, like REALLY enjoyed it, I couldn't figure out why wither as it realyl wasn't all that special. I am a Sam Adams fan though, I don't think they're the greatest thing ever by any means but its a good drinking beer when I'm feeling cheap.

Sixshooter, you really need to hit up Cigar City Brewery. Its on Spruce, just a block or so west of Dale Mabry. Bolita is one of my favorites from them, but they do a ton of small innovative batches of stuff too, thats only availble on tap or by growler

http://www.tappenings.net/wp-content...ty_Bolita1.jpg

According to the Cigar City Brewing website, Bolita is an Imperial Northern English Brown Ale that has a complex malt forward character with notes of chocolate, toffee and hints of roasted nuts in the finish. Over Thanksgiving we visited family in Jacksonville Florida and the only beer I was excited about getting my hands on was the Cigar City brews. This brewery won a gold medal at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival for their Humidor IPA and I made it my personal mission to get a few bottles of their beers to enjoy at home. This is the first of their beers that I cracked open and it did not disappoint. The 750 ml bottle poured a deep rich brown with a beautiful tan head full of tight persistent bubbles. The aroma was very malt forward with hints of chocolate, bread and a wonderful nut characteristic. The flavor consisted of sweet malt and chocolate balanced with a nice roasted bitterness. It was full bodied with a creamy mouth feel that added to the sweetness. The finish was somewhat dry and for a big beer I could have had several rather than a single pint. At 9.0% this was a big beer but exceptionally smooth and flavorful. I can’t wait to try the others I brought back and after trying the Bolita, Cigar City lived up to their reputation.
