Well, if it's a financial decision, keep your BRZ :P

really, you need to drive them and see which one you like better. If you like the Mustang better, then awesome, you just saved yourself some coin. If you like the Camaro significantly better, then paying another $5k ish for the one you really want is not really a huge thing. If it were, you'd keep the BRZ.

No it's not a financial thing. I could go up to the dealer and drive one of them home tonight if I wanted.

My point more was, the 1LE is a monster, no doubt. And of course I want it just because it has all the cool stuff, but do I really need factory built HPDE car to drive 7 miles to work and then 7 miles back home? ON city streets or the Interstate. God at 35 I'm starting to think like an adult about buying a car................must do something ridiculous to make those thoughts go away.

But you are right, I do need to just go drive both.

Well, for the cost difference between 1LE and non-1LE, why wouldn't you?

You already said you'd want great suspension and super wide wheels/tires.. the 1LE has both right out of the box (285mm fronts, 305mm rears). The Magnetic ride should ride better on your drive to and from work, too. Recaros, bigger Brembos... I mean, you get all that stuff for about the same as what you'd pay for a good set of coilovers and wheels/tires in the aftermarket.

... and if you DON'T get the 1LE, the regular SS still outperforms the GT mustang, both in feel and on paper. BUT again that's not everyone's cup of tea.

Yeah yeah drive them

Should we start a new thread of "Tell me what car to buy and why" because I need help with the at or sub-$20k range that's new enough to not worry about even a bit.

Buy new base model Civic/Corolla.

Drive for 250k miles only changing fluids, brakes, tires.

Done.

Maybe 5 years ago I'd have agreed.

Now, I actually like using the wife's mazda 6 to daily to work because:
1) there is literally not 1 minute of my morning commute where I can go WOT in the stang, or even use any part of it's peformance
2) sitting in bumper to bumper traffic and not caring if someone hits the car is less stressful
3) parking anywhere in the lot and not caring if someone dings the car is less stressful
4) getting 28.6mpg while doing nothing but bumper to bumper is better than 15

The list goes on.

I really think I'm gonna get a beater for myself and keep the sports car in the garage for weekends and fun shenanigans

Well, Mazda 6 is not a camry/accord/corolla/civic. The Mazda 6 is a NICE car, with good driving dynamics. It has a nicely styled, quality-feeling interior (relative to others in its class). It's a damn good looking car. It sounds sporty when you romp on it, even if it's not very quick.

That's what I'd recommend. you can buy a very decent brand new Mazda 3 for at or under $20k. Great option.

Yup, I love how it looks.
But the transmission and throttle response is so bad it's almost dangerous.

When you need to stab the throttle in emergency situations, you get literally no response for a full 1-2 seconds, then finally the car downshifts and applies WAY more throttle than you asked for.
frustrating. but I can live with it I guess. otherwise great car and I like everything else. wish I could tune it

Really? I just got used to using the kickdown switch. I'd either go right up to it for one downshift, or go past the click and it would immediately kick down and go. But I didn't typically drive in as heavy of traffic as you do, maybe in all stop-and-go it doesn't work as well.

Yeah, my ex-wife drives a 2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring with the Tech Package...............that's a damn fine place to put down the miles. And it's such a large, nice vehicle and knocks down 40+ mpg on the highway.

But that was also a nearly $35k car once she had the dealer add their "Black out Package." So emblems/wheels/trim/etc all blacked out on a black car. Good looking and driving vehicle. If I didn't still want something fast, I'd seriously consider buying one for myself.
