Finally got the engine and trans pulled on the black car last night. I'll start disassembly on the burn car soon.

Would any of you oobahru bros like to school me on some OE tire sizes. Would it be worth my while to find a 225/45 17" ?

My FRS has the original tires from factory and they slip easily in dry conditions. Looking for either a performance summer or long lasting all season.

What do?

Edit* Watched a YT video of a 225/45 17 setup, but he also had 1" spacers all around with a 1" eibach spring drop. It filled out nicely with possibly small amount of rub at full tilt. Tires were Hankook Evo2.

225/45/17 is fine stock. But spacers on the stock wheels definitely make them look much nicer since they aren't AS sunken in.

I ran 18x9.5 ET38, 255/35, lowered on Ground Controls with like -2.5°/-2.0° camber f/r and still had room to the fender lips. The cars can fit a massive amount of tire without anywork.

Nice,

The sunken in look drives me crazy. I'd like a new set of rims but that's not in the cards at the moment. Would definitely get a wider 6UL in Tungsten or Charcoal and run no spacer.

Here is the YT vehicle I mentioned. Even with spaced stock rims, it doesn't look bad.

I don't know what it is, but personally, I don't think the 6UL design works well on the twins.

The APEX ARC-8 does, and that's what is going on my 135i as well.

Not to take anything away from 6UL's, and they are still king on track miatas, but there is such an amazing selection of wheels for the twins, that 6UL's would be toward the end of my list behind eleventy billion others that are just as light, properly fitting, but way better looking. just .02 tho

As for 225's, yes. The answer is always yes. meaty fitment > stretch

Yeah 6ULs took a while to grow on me. But now I wouldn't run anything else on a Miata.
Though if there was an STI friendly size I would probably buy them. I hate every wheel that's available in this size lol.

Fwiw, I understand the above opinions with 6UL on the twins. But, I don't see them at least around in my area on the twins, miatas only. If I see another RPF1 or a dished/stance rim setup though I might puke lol. I'm definitely into function > form, and if I can support a favored miat vendor that makes it worth while for me.

However... those ARC-8s though do look pretty snazzy .

Any suggestions on the idea of doing a complete swap with a jdm sti gc8 half cut to an early US Impreza and converting to lhd? I have done some looking and it seems like the biggest issue is swapping ac, modifying the harness, and the pedal box. It also looks like you can't tune early jdm ecu's. Doing some googling it seems like swapping in a us sti powertrain is more popular, and I couldn't seem to find much on doing a full swap. If I want to be in the low to mid 300 hp range and have a durable drivetrain, would a half cut work? I know I might need an aftermarket ecu.

That's Ian's car. Now has a JDL turbo setup, rebuilding the engine from a spun bearing. He's running 17x9 with 255/40 Maxis RC1s.

It's too bright. It doesn't match. You're going to have to get it dirty.

God damn I love that front end, always have. If something ever happens to my GD I'm replacing it with a 11-14 blue sti hatch.

thanks. started fiddling with the tune and so far at 370/350 with basically no timing or boost. since the id1050's and dw65c tend to be maxed at 430 I'm going to stop at 400/400 for now.

lol isn't that the opposite of being rice?

I'm still undecided if I want to reinstall oem or get a black/dark grey or black/white ones.

also on that note:

Fuel pressure started dropping up top so I didn't want to push it to 420 like I was planning. Maybe later with a better pump I'll get there but 15hp aint a big deal at this point lol
