logs. I need logs. I get dozens of texts/pm's every week and everyone tries to describe symptoms. it never really works. logs work

Well, got the tactrix and downloaded my map, mostly just looking around and learning. My year of tuning a Motec M150 makes this a lot less intimidating.

I'll take some logs tonight and if I see anything really weird, ill post em here. Its completely possible that I'm just being paranoid.

Can anyone tell me the actual Subaru P/N for the wastegate actuator that goes on TD04, circa 2005?

EDIT: This may be pre-mature. I think my issue is likely not the actuator, but if it is not a big effort, I'd like to know the answer.

and I'm pretty sure IHI doesn't sell loose replacement parts, but here's a knockoff:

I'm finally looking at getting a daily, after driving a more and more modded MSM over the last 5 years, and I've got my heart set on a 07-08 Subaru Liberty GT-B, wagon, manual. (btw, you say "Legacy", we Aussies say "Liberty"). This is the 2.5t, with 6 speed manual.

This is the front runner so far. Just the right amount of mods for my daily uses, and it's got good low mileage. Only issue I see is it's silver, and my MSM is silver (we got Sunlight Silver MSMs here), and honestly silver is a boring colour. Not much I would do to this as it sits besides maybe an android auto head unit, which looks like it's not a straight forward job.

There is also a white one available, more miles/kilometres/units of measure, zero power/handling mods, but does have the STI Enkeis and a double din stereo in place of the stock McIntosh unit. It costs a little more than the other. I can't share it because it's behind a closed Facebook group at the moment. I would get a tune on this pretty quickly if I were to get it.

Any advice for me? I've never had a Subaru but always been intrigued. Anything I should watch out for, or run from?

the legacy here in the states suffers from a very high rate of vf40 turbocharger failures, and the typical ej255 problems (ringland, bearings, headgaskets).

otherwise a manual legacy/liberty wagon with a 6 speed is amazing and most subaru fanbois here would kill to own one

Thanks. I'm aware of typical Subaru reliability concerns, just not sure how much of it is real and how much it's blown out of proportion. Wasn't aware of the turbo failures, not sure what turbo is on these ones in fact, I should check on it. If it goes, it's a good excuse to get something better

As a car to carry me to and from work, protecting me from the harsh Australian summer heat (I can't do another summer in the MSM!), and to cart my dog cat around, but still be an interesting and engaging drive, they look like a good option.

I'm sure I'd go down the Subaru mods path eventually, but hopefully it'll free me up to work on the MSM more in the short term.

Ok I have my 05 Outback XT. It's been sitting for a while, and it has a power steering fluid leak. Pretty sure it was leaking from the pump.

So changed the pump with some cheap new ebay power steering pump. Well, not the pump doesn't leak, but the steering is really jerky, like going from having power steering, not having none. I'm guessing the new pump is bad? Could it be the rack?

it could be air bubbles in the system.
if you have old tubes to/from pipe then replace them, and make sure the clamps/tubes seal well as they often leak, letting air in, causing your symptoms

You do any engine work recently? Most of the subarus have a stupid plastic elbow on the pump where the suction hose connects that is really easy to break by accident. The STi has a metal one IIRC and it just swaps on. Of course you cant buy that part separately anywhere so if you need it you need to either junk yard it or buy a new pump.

I paid a shop to put a new EJ257 longblock/turbo in the car a few years back. Pretty much no engine work has happened since then. I don't know about the water pump elbow you mention.

The PS hoses are all original, and I think the inlet one is old, going to check that and probably change it out, see if that helps.

I'm very happy with it. It's a 2007 GT-B as described above. Has a 3" dump, WRX mufflers (meh), a tune (no details), sway bars and some LEDs. It's quiet, comfortable, classy, roomy and the AC works, perfect for my daily duties.

I'm going to try to not do any additional mods, but it needs a BT adaptor for music, and I'll probably change to the JDM grille on eventually. Must resist wheels and coil-overs and further exhaust mods, the MSM needs the money and attention!

Thanks again for that.

Pump is on order, and I'm considering a top feed conversion, just depends on how lazy I am. If swapping back and forth between stock and ID's isn't a painful and long process I will probably buy them eventually.
I'm hoping to not fall too far down the rabbit hole with this lol.

My pleasure

I have OEM top feed tgv's and rails/lines btw will do super cheap homie hookup if you decide to go that route.
And I've never heard of anyone ever needing to swap back and forth, since it's OEM and looks OEM and has never failed visual ever.

The pump should help though
