I do love having a good beer break next to the car in the sanctity of my garage…

Traditionally, the beer was the reward I usually got after finishing the major part of the work, when all that was left was in level with “to put the last stuff back on and get her down from the stands”. Unfortunately, times are different now when I am grown up, settled down in my own country again and live together with the ever car loving fiancée. This means that my garage stints are mostly limited by time instead of going on for “as long as needed”. This demanded a change of system, since the amount of beer otherwise risked to be drastically reduced, due to me often needing a couple of stints to reach the earlier beer trigger state.

So the new rules is that you must, according to a system based on endless wisdom and fair judgement, have either done something worth rewarding to be allowed to crack open the beers…
- You sure put together that car swift and well, man. Have a beer!
- What a miss! That could have ended badly. Nicely held. Have a beer!
- Man you are smooth with that wrench today! Have a beer!
- That was indeed a manly fart. What a foul stench! Have a beer!

…or in some other way fulfilled a reasonable demand for a beer:
- It is 5C inside the garage; I am wearing 5 sweaters, gloves and a hat. But the beer is even colder out there in the snow… Have a beer!
- If I do not start on the beers now, I will not have time to finish them before I promised to come in again. Have a beer!
- ******* Porsche owner *****… Where do they get all that money from? I bet the damn Nancys sell their little asses down town during the weekends. Have a beer!
- The turbo would have gone right here, if the Swedish inspection service would not have been run by a bunch of car hating *****… Have a beer!

I am going to have a couple of beers now…

Had to give up beer, and Bourbon isn't exactly something I would drink while doing something on the car. So I don't drink anymore when wrenching since beer is no longer an option.

But definitely a nice double of Kentucky Bourbon afterward sure tastes good.

I usually drink Wild Turkey mixed with Cherry Coke and I crush up my brother's Xanax and snort it while I work on the miata. Then the next morning when I wake up I have no idea what I even worked on. It's great for wiring **** up...I'll see the housing melted off a wire the next day and be like, "dude, what happened there?"
But seriously. I used to have Yuengling Black and Tan on tap in the fridge about 6 steps away from the car. Needless to say, I'd start to wrench, and I'd wake up under the 1950 ****** CJ laying on the creeper. This isn't good...so now I keep no more than a 6 pack in the house. I thought maybe I was being a smacked ***, but my friend told me he used to be the same way, and he went the no alcohol route. He claims Spaten Optimator was his weekness, he'd drink and not be able to stop, so he had to end it for good. Now he has a '67 Cuda with a Stroked Hemi, custom FI with EMS-PRO, and it runs in the 9's. Go figure.

a couple winters ago i think i drank an entire 24 pack throughout the course of 3 days.

my transmission blew up in my winter beater escort on a thursday afternoon. that friday, saturday, and sunday were spent replacing the motor and tranny. unfortunately that weekend we had ~10 degree weather, and my fathers garage is unheated. god that sucked.

aside from that, i'll usually have 2-3 at most. i generally want to be able to drive the car when i'm done doing whatever i'm doing haha.

You should take that picture down before you get in trouble.

Humm. Beer.. If I know I'm not driving it, unlimited beer is the norm. If I have to drive after, I keep it to one an hour or so. Got a chick in my car club that loves to drive my car, I take her to club events. No limit on beer.

Pics of said chick?

Perhaps you need less beer and more chick? Let us see pics and we can help to guide you.
