N.Y. School to Maintain 'Partial' Pledge of Allegiance Policy

Despite pleas that the Pledge of Allegiance should be recited in unison over the public address system, students at an upstate New York elementary school will continue to hear only a six-word prompt before they continue the recitation in their classrooms.

It's considered to be in poor taste to discuss the superiority of the United States or the massive wealth it has brought to the rest of the world.

Because not discussing issues like that that your country perpetrated are what non democratic countries like China, etc.... do, as well as teaching their superiority. Do those people love their respective country; China, Iran, etc...?

Straw man much?

I'm talking about the difference between admitting the dark moments in the United States' history and presenting the material as if the United States is responsible for most of the suffering in the world.

Good intentions don’t matter and a lack of understanding of economic principles is no excuse. What matters are the actual consequences of government policy. Those whom liberals claim to love – the poor – are the ones who suffer the most from liberal economic policies.

Well, I'm not old, so it's been true for a while.

But yes, schools teach guilt for the US. Very much so. But they still teach one to be proud of it, at least where I was from. Pride and guilt. The more they're put together, the more effective each is.

I have no idea what you are implying, srsly. Those two sound like one in the same to my feeble mind.

Really?

Admitting that the U.S. has made mistakes = The U.S. is responsible for most of the suffering in the world

Don't see any issues with that? Those two statements mean the same thing?

Actually I gave up caring that this whole discussion is in the wrong thread and decided to just start egging it on and getting it further off track. If you can't beat them, join them.

Not when the government can seize my property if I fail to pay my $700 tax.

Is that per month, quarter, or year? There are many homeowners in NJ paying over $15k a year on property taxes, which should be considered criminal. But we have to send the wealth to less fortunate shit holes such as Newark so they can spend a billion a year for their 70% drop out rate.

Annual. I can sign up to pay it in quarterly installments but they tack on penalties and interest to the payments. My property tax would be much higher if we'd bought in Hinds County (where I work); the tax rates were definitely a reason we primarily looked in Madison County when we were home shopping. There's your real life example of an individual responding to tax incentives and disincentives.

The fact that you're paying tax on land should be considered criminal in any case.

So you need to pay someone with a lot of guns a set amount of money to leave you alone, or they'll hurt you, take what you own?

The mob calls it protection.

The government calls it taxes.
