Hey audiophiles, ? about todays Woot.
I would really like to get some surround sound going in my house. But I dont know much about recievers. From what I understand, with all the inputs this has, I can hook all my stuff into this, and then have 1 HDMI output to my tv and be done. Is that correct? Right now I have a Wii through component, xbox360s though composite, and cableboxDVR though HDMI to my tv.

Yes. Same as my Onkyo. I have the cable box, xbox 360 and apple tv hooked into the receiver via HDMI with one cable into my tv's input 1. Change the receiver to either cbl/sat, dvd or aux and it will do the work for you.
I'm actually thinking about picking up the newest version of my Onkyo 7.1 because it comes wifi ready, can be controlled via iphone and stream directly from pandora.

I know you can hook it up to your PC through the network, so I'm sure there's a way (or will be soon) to use Android as well.
Here's the one I think it is. I was reading about it in the new crutchfield and don't have it here with me.

Spec wise it looks like it has good features and power output, but I would still go off the reviews.
The Onkyo I linked before is the 7.2 model. Here's the same type of receiver, only 5.1 like you want.
You already have the speakers I take it?

You're looking for HDMI transcoding and scaling. The description reads as if it does HDMI switching only, which agrees with the price tag. So no, I does not look like it does what you want. It's also only 5.1, which is kinda lame.

I just got a new TV literally two days ago. It's my first TV in 10 years and I was switching component video through my nearly-ten-year-old Denon up til two days ago. Now I have 2 HDMI (PS3, TiVo HD) and one component (receiver which switches DVD and nothing now) and MY GOD the input switching on the TV is ***** slow.
Not to mention that since I use a Harmony remote, I have to set the power-on delay to like 20 seconds with the new TV.
but the TV is beautiful. and way lighter than the 176 lb CRT I had.
believe me, the first thing I thought was "oh ****, new tech is gonna make me need all new components now!"

(Imagine the following being read in a kindergarten teacher's voice)
Darren has three HDMI-enabled devices, and a receiver with four HDMI inputs. If Darren plugs all of his HDMI-enabled devices into his receiver, how many open HDMI ports will be left?

I don't want to turn this into a debate about "audiophile vs consumer" goods, but consider the price of this Pioneer, or even the H-K receiver, and how much stuff is packed into it. Sound quality is going to suffer hugely, amplifiers are going to be pretty anemic, D/A converters are going to be bottom shelf, ect. If I were you I'd save a few more months and get something you'll be happy with from longevity and audio quality standpoints.
