Use an extension and run it from the back to the table top so its much easier.

 

Better yet, disassemble, rewire internally.

 

I bought my wife a SD card reader with USB 3.0 ports on the front. I was sad when I found out her motherboard only has the connectors on the back, no internal headers to route to the front.


Can someone explain to me VW's obsession with TTY bolts? I am refreshing the suspension on the jetta and every single fastener is listed as tty always replace. I haven't checked, but at this point I would not be surprised to find that the lug bolts and oil drain plug are TTY.

 

The only bolts I replace are the axle bolts when doing suspension. I reuse them once then buy new ones. They use TTY so the bolts will break, not the parts. I agree though, it is ridiculous how many TTY bolts there are. Just don't over-torque them and you'll be safe.

 

lol too late. Grease got on the threads of the funny shaped subframe bolts and it broke when I tried to torque it down. I think it came from the inner CV joint when it failed and managed to find its way in there when I removed the bolt.

The little voice inside my head said something was wrong, but I told it to shutup because I wanted my Miata back.

Depends if the rear usb ports are hard mounted on the board or not. Some of us don't like to re-solder plugs on the board if we dont have to.

Personally i dont like using my front usb ports just because i like my usb 3.0 being on my desk so i have an extension from the rear of the computer to my desk.

FWIW, I still listen to Thriller at least every other week. Been doing it for 31 years now. Had it on a cassette tape with Journey Captured (at least all the songs that would fit on one side of a 90 minute tape) on the other side. Geez I feel old...

A customer ordered 20 Samsung security cameras.
We have been selling these particular cameras since they first came out about 6 months ago, out of hundreds we have sold I have had 2 or 3 come back as defective.
This guy calls and says 5 cameras are bad out of the 20 he bought.

I get them today, and start testing them. None work. No video. No IR LEDs coming on. Nothing.
I notice one is rattling like there is a loose piece inside.

That piece turns out to be an electrical component that de-soldered itself.
Im not 100% sure what it is. Its that little white ceramic cylinder with the square base. Kinda looks like a high current resistor, like maybe a heater to act as a defroster? Paging Joe Perez.

The IC in the above picture (the one that is surrounded by burn marks) turned out to be the motor driver for the autofocus (BA6208L).

Im pretty sure this guy either wired a couple cameras up backwards in the power supply.

 

My first impression is that it's likely a polyfuse, though I can't recall seeing one in that exact shape before.

That said, I'd be surprised if the camera didn't have reverse-polarity protection in the form of a diode inline with the power supply. It looks like there might be one in the second image, just below the "V1.1" sticker.

 

I'm thoroughly enjoying reading the ANSI Z535 standards so I can bring our manuals up to snuff.

 

That seems to be part of the video out circuit. The part number P008A belongs to a thyristor, but it only has 2 pins...



On the other side of the board there is what appears to be a protection diode on the positive power, unharmed in the explosion and subsequent release of blue smoke.

I dont get it.

I considered that he may have accidentally used a 24V AC power supply, but the other cameras didnt blow up. So I still dont get it.

Basically, when an overvoltage condition occurs, it clamps and conducts from V+ to ground.

Interestingly, that specific part has a maximum working voltage of 6v, and a maximum trip voltage of 25v. If 24VAC were applied to it, that part would probably sit there tripping on and off continuously. I'm not sure where I'm going with this line of thought...



If the white cylinder is part of the video circuit (which I'm not entirely convinced of), then it's probably something mundane like an inductor. I'll bet that nothing bad at all happened to that part- rather the heat generated by the immolation taking place on the other side of the board simply melted the solder under it and caused it to drop off. That sometimes happens.

 

It reminds me of a Telco style gas surge arrestor, but I was waiting for Joe to say something because he is much more knowledgeable about PCB components than I.
