How much of a potential pain in the dickhole would it be to get an MS3X running on a ford zetec engine stuffed in a ginetta g40? Uni won't let me possibly destroy the dry-sumped K20 on our engine dyno so they offered an other car instead

I'm pretty sure it's possible to megasquirt your lawnmower with some k-mart bicycle speedo stuff rigged for triggers, but it seems it supports the ford stuff with the right wiring. Pretty easy, really.

Sweet. Looks like it's a 140hp 1.8 zetec in there. I should have a spare miata 1.8 harness with ecu connectors I could sacrifice for the installation.

If actually IN Shitcago... ensure you can own them within the city boundaries as I forget where their current laws stand.

That said, Marlin 795 is a cheap .22 and before jumping right into an AR... have you shot much/at all and tried a variety of things? Try to play some before picking your first purchases (assuming they are the first, can't tell from FOID post).

I'm in the suburbs 5 miles outside of ohare.

I have shot a double barrel hunting shotgun at a farm. not sure what gauge it was. I've fired maybe 20 rounds total from a hand gun but thats it.

That puts you possibly in Cook County... which has its own set of rules also, and being in Cook you get some potential for some local areas to have their own Home rules (mostly all for AR15 stuff). There was a big jumble of rule sets a few years ago, so make sure you run through researching those before going a potentially legal issue creating route.

Thank goodness for being even farther out... that said... this state sucks

What about revolvers? It would be nice to be able to keep one gun loaded at all times.

if your after home protection it's hard to beat the good ol Remington 870 (or any decent) pump shotgun. The sound of loading a shell is iconic and when just the sound doesn't scare them off, all kinds of special ammo available. There are tons of forums dedicated to these topics. My advice would be to find a range that rent's guns and try a few more, then hang out while the gun smith cleans them.

Well if i'm going to get a long rifle i might as well get an ak47. Main reason i dont like shotguns is because its 1 or 2 shots.

?

At last check, a Remington Versa held 8-10 shells, and laid down a much broader spread than any 7.62-chambered rifle.

For a home defense tool unlikely to be used under ideal range conditions, I'd take the "ker-chunk" sound followed by 640 grain #1 shot any day.

For home defense shotgun 100%

Point and shoot. I guarantee most people would miss with every single shot in a pistol if they were actually scared or being attacked.

But on the other hand I could give anyone a shotgun and they could hurt someone with their eyes closed.

I think a lot of people overestimate the spread on an un-choked 18" barrel (shortest legal length without tax-stamp tomfoolery) shotgun. A good rule of thumb is one inch of spread per yard traveled. So at 20 feet, or across a good sized room or down a hallway, the spread is just over six inches. More than a pistol or rifle, sure, but not exactly a street sweeper.

But that's 12 times the area of any sort of pistol.

Lots of incorrect information in the last several posts.
Let's talk about it in the gun thread.

P.S. I am thankful for Trumps victory because I am filling in at my buddy's gun store tomorrow. I was prepared to deal with the toothless hordes looking to clean us out.
Should be a quiet day.

I figured out who won the election when I was woken up last night by gunshots and fireworks.
