That's funny you say that because I myself have become a frequent user of toothpicks lately. Never, ever used them, not even to clean my teeth. Now I keep like 10 with me at all times.

In all fairness I quit smoking cigarettes by continuing smoking herb. If I couldn't pack a bowl pack mid day, late afternoon, etc, then I'd probably still be smoking cigs.

whats the leanest you would risk running a BP at cruise at 4k rpm's in 5th" (my gear ratios are close to the miatas so ill let you do the MPH calculations) right now i have it pretty steady at 15.9-16:2 but im bored have 800 miles till baltimore and would love to save more gas..

16'ish:1 sounds reasonable.

As an FYI, running leaner does not necessarily translate to better fuel economy.

It takes a certain amount of power to move your car through the air at a given speed. That's a constant. Now, all else being equal, power is made by burning fuel. And while the relationship between AFR and power is not absolutely fixed, as a general rule, running a leaner mixture translates to less power produced for a given amount of airflow.

Thus, I expect that if you check some datalogs, you will find that you are probably running with very slightly more throttle to maintain 80mph at 16:1 than you would be at 15:1. I don't expect the difference to be significant, but from a purely academic standpoint you are probably, in fact, burning about the same amount of fuel either way, and merely passing more air through the engine in the process at the leaner mixture.

Though I could be totally wrong.

yeah i plan on checking the logs and seeing if my kpa is higher at a leaner AFR (no tps input) my record so far was 34mpg at this speed but that was with a factory ecu, now im on a spare MS1 and like i said really bored

during cruise, the more you lean out, the more you want to advance the timing.

ill try the advance, tho i wonder how much i can run on a distributor, or how much i can run before i knock.

Dude, consider yourself fortunate that you are aware enough to detect the signs so quickly. There is a narrow window between identifying faint symptoms and the point of no return. Within that window, there are a few things you can do to knock it back and expect to wake up healthy. One is a radical sinus flushing via a neti pot. About 3/4 teaspoon of salt per cup of water is a good high-test home brew. Try to snort some of the water thru your sinuses and into your throat to flush thoroughly. Use warm water, about 100F. Hotter if you can hang. Second is to make an elixir (I learned this from a 90 year old Chinese guy) made with 12oz Coke, not diet, not pepsi, but Coke. Preferably the mexican bottled **** made with cane sugar. Put that in a pan with coarsely chopped fresh ginger. Reduce by half. EDIT: strain out the ginger. Gargle this while hot, then swallow. Might be placebo, but seems to work if you catch it in time. Then vitamin C, and straight to bed with a big bottle of water next to you. No booze, no cannabis, eat only easily digestible food (soup) but not right before going to bed. Cold be damned.

I'm looking forward to tuning cruise in my daily. I drive 360 highway miles 3 weekends per month to visit my GF in Houston, so I can test multiple variables on 100-mile experiments in one day.

I'm not really sure if I'm looking for the lower TP% or the lowest PW or VE values in cruise. I plan to learn this before I go with the VVT head. I'm also installing the EGT sensor in this car to help out.

PW is the most direct way to measure instantaneous relative fuel consumption. If, for a given steady-state speed (assuming all external conditions to be a constant) you see fuel PW increase or decrease as a function of ignition advance or VVT angle, you can directly correlate this to a drop or gain in fuel economy for that operating condition.

Toothpicks will help with the oral fixation and the need to fidget. I have a hookah but don't smoke cigs or weed. I don't know if it would get somebody over a craving or not. Ice cubes and red wine with water in the bottom or DeKuypers Creme De Menthe in the water adds some extra flavors. They put apple juice in the water in Egypt sometimes.

I love the Neti pot when I get jammed up sinuses. I don't ever snort anything but let gravity take the soothing warm salt water up into my sinuses above my eyes and gently open the inflamed areas. What a relief. I thought my friend was a ucking nut for suggesting it but I bought one at Walgreens and have used it every time I needed it. Do love it... Have had it for three years and use it often for both allergies and sicknesses.

+1

A buddy got me into it maybe 2wks ago and I'm already halfway through S2.

Seriously good show, well shot.

On the smoking:

I smoked maybe 7yrs and quit in my mid 20s. Went 5yrs without a smoke and this time last year decided I really enjoyed smoking and wanted to...so I did. Tried to quit a few months ago but neck pain didn't make it easy.

Promised my wife I'd quit by Christmas.

There was a fire in a friend's workplace this evening.
The place belongs to him. He manufactures pressed goods, like bucket handles.

Turns out a worker left an electric heater on in the break room.
The place looks devastated, but repairable. None of the machinery was damaged.

But his dog was there. A great, huge gentle giant 130lb Great Dane.
Hero died in the fire. We found him between the couch and the back wall in one of the upstairs offices. That was his favorite place to spend the evenings.

Sorry guys, I am sure there lots of things to feel sorry about in this world, but it just so happens that I love dogs. I have three.
I just could not bear the thought of that poor thing suffering in that acrid smoke, and trying to find refuge between the couch and the wall before he finally succumbed.

The sight of the poor dog, just laying there covered in soot, and yet so peaceful, is not something I will be able to forget. None of what happened was his fault, poor thing.
Sucks.

I am a devout atheist, but if there is ever a thing called sin in this world, animals are without sin. They are innocent, and they are helpless when **** happens because of us.

Just wanted to share. and vent. It is after 4 am here now, and this seems to be the only place for me to express my grief. That's it.

And, I would very much appreciate if those who are so inclined could please keep any sort of snide remarks to themselves. Thank you.
