There are actual clothing stylists that you can hire to help you with your wardrobe. What I am betting, is Joe would not be willing to pay what they would charge him, and then shop at the stores that they would want to take him to. I personally have a local stylist that works for a company that I get custom tailored clothes from. I give her a call, we meet up somewhere to discuss what I am looking for and what is currently available. We pick out the clothes I want and she puts in the order. All clothes are custom tailored to my specs. The clothes then get shipped to me and we meet up again. Usually it is to check fitments and such. If there are any problems she gives the company a call and they fix them.

 

Lars, maybe it's because I've only seen you in ratty tshirts and jeans or shorts and sporting a mohawk or whatnot, but I have trouble believing you use a personal shopper and acquire custom tailored clothes!

I remember you suggesting something to do with clothes, but the idea for the ClothesBook was a completely unique and independent development.

 

There are sites like this for women with "personal stylists." I think I have a better solution in mind, aimed at the male demographic personified by the respondents to this tangent.

 

My set of work jeans are $20 Wrangler relaxed fit straight leg jeans. My "going out" jeans are all $20 Wranger relaxed fit straight leg jeans. I just keep them on different sides of the closet. My clothing budget is practically non existant and to be honest, I hate spending money on clothes. I see so little gain for the increased expense. I am all about value for dollar spent, which is probably why I drink "Two Buck Chuck" from Trader Joes.

 

I mean, I am not going to work on cars in an outfit that costs more then $300 for the shirt and pants alone.

I will say that the amount of custom tailored clothes I own is lower then I would I like, mostly due to budget. I can definitely tell the difference between my $30 Stafford dress shirt from JC Penny, and the custom tailored dress shirt that runs me $120+. So the question is it worth 4 times the price for Joe to have someone help him choose clothes and make sure they fit properly for him. Honestly Joe could probably go on CL in NYC and find someone willing to go shopping with him for a few hundred bucks.

 

I'm offering vision and execution skills to get your idea and Scrappy's wife's dress-up-doll style into the hands of the common man.

 

Seriously someone needs to start the dress like a king thread and move all relevant posts to it. I am actually just starting the process of up scaling my wardrobe because I now have a job that not only allows me to afford it but necessitates it.

As stated already, express for men is a great place for well fitting button down shirts. I'm not a fan of the fit of their pants, however. I use to hate spending a lot of money on clothes until I actually tried it and realized how much better I looked. Confidence goes up as well as attention from the opposite sex and the gays for what it's worth.

*** rocket? Haha, not quite. Those are bullet cufflinks. .30 caliber, 168 gr Barnes TTSXs to be specific. I make similar sets in 5.56mm/.223, 6mm/.243, 6.8mm/.270, .338, 9mm and .45. Although the *** rocket might be a good angle. I bet that the Venn diagram of people who would use something like that and people who wear cufflinks has more overlap than that of people who like guns/bullets and those who wear cufflinks.

 

Golf shirts, a decent pair of jeans, and some square toe slip-on casual shoes are about as fancy as it gets up in this piece.

Lately, I've been stuck offshore hunched over in the subsea SCADA cabinets, with zero excercise and an endless supply of food- I've developed a band of fatness right around my waist that makes my jeans fit like ***. Must stop eating... but the ice cream is so tasty..

 

I am ordering 3 shirts I think. At that price I will gladly give a few a try.

Joe, I think you should find a few used shirts like this and wear them to work as an experiment to see if people will actually call you by the name on the shirt.
