I have already spent 2500 dollars just to refinish my wood deck, and cut into concrete and rebar in my wall for a nice looking pellet stove to cut down on heating costs... the stove was 800 dollars on top of that. Then there's my shed of which I need to refinish...

No doubt, I think between a new garage door opener, new front door and security door, Pella sliding glass door, and a complete down to the studs bathroom remodel.......we've dropped about $8500 on the house this year?

Not including the shrubs I planted in the back yard to make a "green" privacy fence. Spent $2k to have to trees pulled down in the front yard that were infested with tree borers. We came up with another $3500 to refinance the house.

And next year means a new privacy fence on one side of the house, and ALL the landscaping in the front needs to be redone since the trees had messed it up so bad.

Ugh.

 

Damn! Got an estimate for running some cables in a conference room...stupidly, ridiculously high. Now my boss wants me to do it myself instead. I hate running cables.

Ionizing radiation is an interesting beast. Unlike EM radiation, particle radiation is actually harmful to living tissue even in relatively small doses. And yet some of the standards which are set for controlling it are just silly.

Did you know, for instance, that the US Capitol building emits more radiation than is legal for an operating US nuclear power plant? The statue of Roger Williams (located between the Rotunda and the Senate chamber), for instance, emits an average dose of 30 μrem per hour. And this, despite the fact that the Capitol building consumes more electricity than it produces.

 

I have pretty much no knowledge on the subject, but i do find it fascinating.

I love to learn new things and recently found out about my dinnerware recently.

 

The only issue I have with the garage is that the beams in the ceiling are slightly to low for a lift.

 

That garage looks HUGE. Don't be sad...

After buying this house with a heated and insulated garage, i don't know how i lived without it before.

That is a hell of a garage.

 

The garage is 26x28, I am very happy with the size. I wish I could epoxy the floor now. Closing ended up costing me $1500 more then expected. So that is coming out of the repair fund budget for now. I priced out doing the garage floor properly and I was looking at about $1000 to buy everything. So that will have to wait until sometime in the future.

 

Erat, I'm interested in what you learned.

There was a time when you could buy soaps, drinks, tonics, cosmetics, toothpaste, suppositories, and all sorts of other things which were deliberately laced with radium (Ra88), touted as having revitalizing, restorative properties.

Never mind that the discoverer of radium was also killed by it.

****, my family has been hit with so many things lately. My grandfather passed away a few hours ago, the day after veterans day. I'm surprisingly not that sad about the whole situation like I thought I would be. I'm more about celebrating and remembering the good times and good things he did and experienced in his life, not the sadness of missing him. He had a long, full life, and he had expressed that he was in pain and ready to go. Found him in the hallway this afternoon, he flat lined and was revived and rushed to the hospital where we told them to forgo further treatment and futile attempts to prolong his suffering and let him slip away in peace. I'm gonna miss that grouchy old cuss. Always have the memories and stories.

 

If you have the ability to lay tile, go for it. I unfortunately did not have that option. I was working with almost 40 year old concrete.

But if you do epoxy it's all in the prep work. I used Epoxy Paint For Garage Floors – Epoxy-Coat.com This stuff is pretty much the highest rated i could find with a decent price.
It comes with some pretty good instructions on what all needs to be done. I used a resurfacing concrete mix to fill in pitting and stuff that i had. I also rented a huge sander like tool from home depot to rough everything up and get anything loose up.

Buy the spiky shoe things. I didn't do that, and kinda kick myself for it. It will really make things easier. If you don't have a ceiling, it will make spreading the flake easier too.

Do not drink beer and do it. You'll get high and drunk really quickly.

I had to order one and a half kits for my garage and was on the very edge of almost not having enough. So plan accordingly. It will come with a paint stick with lines on it so you can measure out each parts for the mixing. Make a second or third measuring stick as the lines on the first one get hard to see after a while.
