No. I haven't even been to MEPS yet. If the doc says it's bad then I'll start job selection over. Recruiter will be pissed but that's his problem.

No such thing as airborne linguist school. I mean you can go to DLI for Chinese, and then do airborne school en route to you first duty station. But they are definitely separate. The drop out rate at DLI can be quite high. My class at DLI started out as two large classes, we ended as one medium class.

DLI was great. One of the best and most stressful years of my life. I'm sure if kotomile visits this thread he can probably vouch for that.

USAF? We have PJs and other flyers that have the option to tack on a secondary AFSC code for linguist... I didnt know what exactly he failed out if, but he also took the linguistics courses.

Okay AF does have "airborne" linguist. But by airborne it means they SIT in a plane all day. They don't jump out of it ever.

Now as for PJs or JTAC it could be different. I've never met any (at least JTAC, never met a PJ) that had a language. Many of them do crash courses that teach them key words. But who knows.

I decided to take a look at the promotion rate for 15U. Interesting stuff.

A kinda good indicator of an over/under strength MOS is promotion rate. There can be a lot of other factors, so this doesn't always ring true. But usually if it's over strength the promotion rate is crap.

Take 13B for example:
Eligible for promotion: 223
Number promoted: 6

Now take 15U:
Eligible for promotion: 62
Number promoted:62

So the promotion rate for November 2013 for 15U was 100%. Meaning they had so many slots open that everyone that could be promoted, was. 13B on the other hand did not have very many slots open. Usually this is because they are filled by someone else. Meaning they are over strength.

Now this isn't the whole story, as some MOSs are weird, or have special requirements. Plus since this is for SGT and SSG, an MOS could be way over strength for lower enlisted, and way under strength of SGT and SSG.

Take my old MOS for example. We were way over strength for SPC and below, because most came is as PFC or SPC, and training was 18 months. So there were a lot of Soldiers in the training process. Then due to knowing a critical language, many 35P Soldiers get out and become contractors. So SGT and SSG are way under strength because so many get out at SPC and SGT. Then SFC is way over strength again because it's hard to become a MSG as 35P, so many 35P SFC stay there for a while. But it's even more complicated because 35P promotes based on language too. So 35P linguist of one language may be super under strength and another language is way over strength.

You can check promotion rates for most MOSs here:http://www.ncoguide.com/files/csnov13.pdf

Note the 35P ones, they are separated by language.

So there's this DOPE Volvo 122 with a SR20DET swap on Fleabay that I want to buy for my son for christmas- Buy It Now is $15,500, bidding is below reserve still. I message the guy and offer him $15,000 for it since it'll cost me $1500 to truck it home, he responds and tells me he's already accepted a local deal and is just waiting for the check to clear.

That seems sort of fucked up to me. Am I wrong? If the auction is still up and I go ahead and use the Buy It Now option at $15,500 isn't he obligated to sell the car to me? Is my understanding of eBay wrong, or am I just a douche with a sense of entitlement?

Is it this car?

If so, that car is waaaay too cool for a kid's first car. Unless I am mistaken on the age of your son.

Yeah, that's the car. My son is almost 15, totally self-motivated honors student and genuinely a REALLY good kid.. I wouldn't have any reservations giving him a nice car, and honestly, at the private school he attends the kids are routinely in cars three times as expensive as that Volvo, so a beater Cavalier isn't going to cut it.

(Also, if I get him something really cool maybe he'll give up his plan to daily drive that '59 F100 I built, which is a cool truck but not really built for safety..)

That must be an older pic of the car; it's been improved since then- looks like a fresher bumper, the fogs and lamps are different, the car looks generally tighter in the ad- pretty neat car.

I have never put a filter on with anything but my hand, and I have never had a leak at the filter. Those gaskets have quite a bit of compliance, so accommodate quite a range of torque.

OP of that thread is just looking for attention. Lots of noise about nothing.
