I prefer to believe that what we have sacrificed in eloquence, we have gained in efficiency and precision.
Consider the MIPS R2000, with its RISC architecture; did its performance-per-watt not vastly exceed that of the might 360, despite the latter's rich and complex microcode-based instruction set?

Can elegance not be defined as that which is streamlined in implementation and purposeful in form?
A Honda Civic which is laden with chrome and neon is not beautiful, and yet an Ariel Atom which has been stripped down to the barest mechanical essentials is. Doth not the same heart beat within both vehicles? And yet, so different be they.

While function is indeed the most critical component, there is rarely a need to sacrifice beauty for function. I know that in some cases form is merely a product of function. These happy incidents usually get remembered.
Salvation Army will usually come and pick them up from your house for free.
I think they clean them and give them to homeless shelters.

Overheard in the newsroom earlier:
"I am literally going to have to pull that script out of my ***."
I am figuratively going to kill the next person I hear using "literally" to describe figurative actions.
I am literally going to type a response to your aggravation as a poke of fun, because I am literally bored at work.

what's that rumor / urban legend about mattresses gaining like 50% of their weight in dead skin and various buggers over the life of their use?
source = no
source = no
For too much nasty info, I'm pretty sure my mattress has easily gained 50% of its original weight in the last 10 or so years. For several years thanks to my kidney issues, I had severe night sweats at least once a week. For a while I didn't have a cover over the mattress, but I finally figured I needed to get something vinyl to seal it up before I rotted the fabric out with my delicious sweat. In that time, the mattress got pretty funky and nasty. I tried to clean it up a bit with steam, and it helped a little, but it's still much heavier than it was new. I was sweating so much that it was like someone was pranking me in the night by pouring a quart of water over me from head to toe. I was damn near dripping wet when I would crawl out of bed in the night to use the bathroom.
I'm about to do this myself. I slept on one for probably 4 or 5 years when I was in high school, and loved it. My current mattress and box spring is old and saggy in the middle. I'm beginning to think it is to blame for me not sleeping well lately. Throw that **** out, and bring in the new air mattress!

I would be too.
