Modern bicycles lights are amazing. So much power in a compact, self contained rechargeable package. Tool-less install. I recall my dual emitter, Ni-Cad Nightrider circa '93, what a piece of crap compared to this.

Back when I was a kid the only lights we could get ran off a generator turned by the tire and I'm only 32. I would have stayed out so late every day if I had my current lights. LED technology is so great.

I'd been thinking about something like this:

As for the face, gotta see what's available. I know nothing about this stuff...

Mine is the wraparound kind. My guess is the one you pictured has some bulky inner structure to clamp onto your head. No good for helmets. Thinner is better. The one I use is just a section of fleece with a slightly elastic hem, so:

Couldn't find a smaller image of this one

Hmm. I was actually thinking it'd be nice to have something that didn't cover my forehead...

I guess I'll have to go to the store and try a few on. I always have my helmet with me when I'm in the city, fortunately.

I have a fleece tube I made Covers the lower face, nose, neck, and ears. I normally end up dropping it down to just neck when its gets to be too hot and works out fine when snow boarding.

So yeah, you know that $20 magic shine knock off I bought. I think it gave me welders plaque when I accidentally turned it on directly into my eyes. I estimate it outputs 100,000,000 lumens, it is **** you bright and I would feel like an ******* stopped at traffic lights with it on full power blinding the drivers of cars. I highly doubt that any of the $100+ options are 4 times as bright.

I feel a winter ride coming on - during the day though.

I don't think I could ride my bike at night - I'm not sure when I would get my drinking done.

Now you've got me curious... I wonder whether they'll be installing different rubber on the Citibikes when the white stuff starts coming down.

For that matter, Jerseybike is definitely going to need different tires. The Michelin Pilot Cities are great when it's dry, and acceptable in the wet, but snow and slush is going to flummox them.

Anybody have a decent suggestion for a good tire for riding on snow-covered pavement? I'll need 'em in both 26" and 700c.

Just for kicks I went and looked. Universal cycles has a whole bunch of winter tires up on their site now, but they're all hella expensive. We'll see how many times I take a digger going to work this winter before I get rid of the garbage nylon (lol) mtb tires on my bike now. I'm thinking of putting the club roost cross terras on it.

I guess what I mean, more generally, is this:

For riding exclusively on pavement, are studded tires the most desirable option, or are there other designs better suited to this task?
