If FEMA had the bicycles, would it fund Hustler's manlet bib?
they have safety marshals on the side of the track- and they blow a whistle when a rider passes so people crossing the track and on the side know when someone is coming. It's mostly helpful during practice when the track is crowded.
good god the mount st. anne track is terrifying. The speeds these guys carry on some of these tracks just looks alien. I'm headed up mammoth this weekend for some lift assisted riding... i'll just be happy to hit the jump lines without breaking an arm much less carry any actual speed.
thanks for sharing dave.

That was 15 years ago. The game has changed. Even crazier and faster now.

So here I was lamenting that I had to replace a cracked manifold with a 4-2-1 header on my civic because it was cheaper and sad that it was super loud when I hear this cyclist whiz by coasting quite clearly over the sound of cheap ricey exhaust.
I think he had swapped out his freewheel with a chainsaw or something.

One of the things I really enjoyed about the set of carbon wheels I borrowed for a week was the loud rear hub. Good for alerting space cadet pedestrians to one's presence.

I am going to mix it up at the local industrial crit tonight. First race in years. I only have my miata insured right now, can I get a 54cm frame and a set of wheels in the passenger seat (sparco chrono). Or will I have to remove the seat.
You're really close to Angelfire as you know... it's one of the best bikeparks in North America right now. I've been to a bunch, and AF is 2nd (distant second
) only to Whistler in my opinion.
Would I be crazy not to participate in this?

R45s, son. I'm not trying to ride 200 miles per week on some cone-bearing ****.
Your prejudice against adjustable cup and cone bearings is unfounded.
I get both sides of the pressfit bearing vs cup and cone.
The cup and cone is serviceable and adjustable, but when do you really need to do that in comparison to a sealed pressfit bearing.
Pressfit bearings are lighter weight too, though this could be causing the failures as well.
I wouldn't make a hub choice based just on the bearing type. Both work well and for all intents and purposes are totally serviceable.

Just thought of a moment from my ride last night that was a real rush.
I got into the draft of a car going downhill last night that was accelerating. It doesn't matter if it was the right thing to do or not but I did it, and it was a riot... kind of like that highest speed ever on a bike video.
It was a 60km/h zone and the hill wasn't all that steep, but it was really long. I got in behind the car at 40km/h which was an effort on the top flat but going downhill in the draft I was tucked and coasting we went up to around 75km/h down a slow 1.5% grade.
good times.

"Matt,
The track will be available to you for riding bikes, and for pedestrians, but the event/Mazda takes no responsibility or liability for your actions. So, if you break yourself coming down the corkscrew, or run over a pedestrian, it's all on you.
See you in a month!"
Bicycles are a go for Miatas @ MRLS. This is all the detail I have at this time. Gonna bring your steed, Andrew?
