Looks like I need some good tires.



Any suggestions?

The cornering isn't a big concern. Roads are pretty straight and corners are generally slow at the intersection.

Basically I want it to wear well, be fast and lastly smooth.

I'm very happy with the feel, extremely long wear (2500 miles per rear), and extremely good flat protection from my Maxxis Detonators. However, I'm going to give GP4kS a try next.

Yeah, Im thinking of rocking the gp4kS as well.

Going to rock a stagger with the new one in the rear until this front dies then swap back to front and run them same front/back.


Was hoping to get the season out of these tires, but such is life.


Or I can shoe goo the hole full, but I don't think that would really help. Its right down to the carcass.

 

I'd give you $40 to not look at your mis-matched tires, lol.

 

Reading reviews of the GP4000S...

I also ride some dirt trails here and there (slow riding, mostly with wife) and just on and off the shoulder of the road when we need to stop for something.... mechanical or engine related.


Think Im ok with riding a rare dirt trail on a gp4000s2 or should I get something more robust?

TBH, im not going to like the way it looks either. I never liked the whole white sides of my Specialized Roubaix tires, but they came with my wheelset that made it worthwhile for me to get.
Not too worried about it. More about the ride than the form right now and getting more km for less $ is good for me.

 

Whats wrong with different tires front and rear?

 

Mine right now would be different colors if I ran different front and back.

Maybe I will switch the current front to the rear just to kill it fast.

I ran the Tioga Psycho Butterscotch yellow tire and a Michelin Wildgripper green tire on my MTB. The color made them faster.

Doesn't Michelin or Schwabe make a green road bike tire ?

What you need are the Conti Olympic track tires if you really want to roll. Sewups that are good to 15 bar (215psi) and only cost $280 each - plus they are natural yellow.


I can't imagine how a road would feel at 215psi or what kind of bead/rim could handle that.....

 

+1 on GP4000S. Yes, they will work fine with occasional gravel road. I would suggest 25mm, unless you are very light.

On a commuter, I would suggest Ultra-Gatorskins.

Got some on the recommendation of the LBS as well.

Not an expensive version... just the Rubino.

Will ride until the miss matched tires die and re-evaluate my cycling goals.
