Default I'm Building a Shop for my Obsession (40x60x14)

Finally decided it was time to build a shop in the backyard. It has always been on the to-do list but always out of reach financially. I think I've findally found a spot where I can work it in and help take the load off of my ever growing garage and driveway.

Here are some of the pictures of the progress thus far. Hoping to get the pad going this week.

I'm getting ready to do a shop also. I've "needed" (i.e., wanted) one for a while.

It's approx 1-1/4 acre. Not silly large for the semi-rural area I'm in.

With a good ZTR it's only about a 2hr job.

Here is the basic layout I'm going for.

12x12 doors, two on front, one on back.
Lift and tools with bathroom in middle/front area of RHS.
Metalworking stuff near the rear of RHS.
Storage for projects and vehicles on LHS (until I run out of space for tools/machinery on RHS)

Concrete provisions for two anyway. The first one will be a definite need as soon as the concrete cures.

No bar plans. I'm sure there will be room for arcade shenanigans. It seems like I'll have room for more than I can imagine, but that will be short lived I'm sure. Worked on the electrical layout last night all I kept seeing were dollar signs everywhere. Hopefully it'll be half as cool as I hope.

I finally found a color visualizer that had a sample that was similar to my intentions.

Taupe and Charcoal don't seem to be as common as Grey and Charcoal, but I think it makes it look less industrial. I prefer the charcoal on top version.

Can we paint a big rainbow mural on it for the first annual Bandit Miata BBQ/Cookout/Meet?

the one thing i wish i had done differently when i built my hangar is a 16' eave height. mine is 14', which means i have to bend over when i'm in the storage area above the office.

I know I can just google this but for discussion, how far are you from Norman? Training center for work is in Norman, and I'm sure ill find myself there again in the next year or so.

It wouldn't be party with a rainbow mural. Don't be silly!

It's about a 2hr drive in a NE direction to Broken Arrow from Norman. Feel free to let me know if you feel froggy and want to make a trip up.

I hadn't considered that. I wasn't really planning on having overhead storage as I don't have current plans for a loft. I'll give it some thought.

Height seems like one of those things that is easy and cheap at the start of the project, but expensive and hard to add once it is complete. I wish my garage had 2 more feet of height. If your case I can't see it adding to much to the cost, and like stated, would make overhead storage possible in the future.

Windows for light? More doors for ventilation? Or will it be heated/cooled?

Here are a few images of the building in it's current state.

2 Front Overheads (12x12)
1 Rear Overhead as a Passthrough (12x12)
1 Man Door Facing the House
6 6x2 Transom Lights Mounted High
There won't be a formal heat/air system. I'm going to ask the plumber about floor heating, as I've heard the provisions can be done cheaply when doing the concrete. I might add a window unit or mini-split at some point.
