cat bites
I'm one of those people that animals love. The kind where, when I go to someone's house, they say, "Fluffy doesn't like strangers". Minutes later, Fluffy will be on my lap (or attempting to get there) and be my new bestest friend. Dogs, too - even though I don't particularly like dogs.
So, this morining I'm letting my cats in. They have trained my wife to let them out at the butt-crack of dawn. I see one go in, and as the second approaches, I realize that it's not my cat. I have, however, seen this one around. When he was smaller, he'd follow my cats around like a lost puppy. Wife named him "groupie".
Anyway, this cat stops when he sees me. I hold out my hand, and he sniffs, then rubs. I gently pet him, twice. Third time, he shys away from my hand, so I hold it out for him to sniff again, which he does. And then proceeds to try to tear the flesh from my hand with his teeth. I felt the damn fangs hit bone.
It bled a lot more than I would expect from 2 rather small punctures. I washed it out, and slathered it with Neosporin. 6 hours later, it is looking pretty minor, but it hurts like hell. Hand is not swollen enough to really notice, and it's not red. But the whole thing aches.
Question: when is it necessary to go to a doctor? Yes, I know animal bites are supposed to be nasty, prone to infection. But at what point do I determine that it needs attention, and it's just not me needing to suck it up for a day and let it heal?

*****.
yeah, you got to be cautious of some cats you dont know; especially strays, the only time I've ever been "hurt" by a cat was our alley cat we'd feed in Richmond when I was in school. they can bite HELLA hard and show no warnings.
Similar story with better results, they person we adopted our kitten from had a true siaemese cross-eyed polydactal who showed himself after being there for almost an hour. The owner said he'd probably run away but i really wanted to see his paws; I've never see a poly-cat before. I walked up and he sniffed my hand and he let me have my way with him.
there would be no chance in hell you could pet my two cats, they'd cower in fear, but they would never bite or scratch you.
My kitten attacks my toes in bed, not fun to wake up to. But if he's playing and biting my hand, he doesn't chomp down and licks me instead. so sweet, i love him.

My old roommate got himself a new house and a new cat.
Now I will have to run over to his house to take pictures of new parts with the cats.
She doesn't quite know how to meow yet, she kinda just hisses like she smoked too much. Scared the **** out of me at first because I thought she was hissing at me, but she is very loving.
