I know we all have some sort of device running the show, but chances are you got wires coming and going to that bad boy that you hate stringing around your car when you're tuning... Except maybe Reverant but that's another story.
I also know there's some issues with USB-Serial adapters.
But what about a bluetooth-serial adapter? Anyone think one of these would work? Computer nerd types?

Not exactly cheap at $60 but so what... PCMCIA to serial adapters are that much.
who's game??? who's got a new laptop with BT but no serial? besides me.

I use a serial bluetooth adapter for a work project and it seems to work OK. I do have sync problems sometimes though and that would certainly be an issue with the data passing back and forth. Mine is an Iomega walwart powered unit. My communication problems could be related to the hardware that has the adapter attached though, and not a limitation of the adapter itself. I send and receive data from my Treo 700w phone via the bluetooth port.
I need to buy a laptop for tuning when the car and Motec finally get here. But the owner included the PCMCIA to serial adapter so I wouldn't really need this.

where do you get pcmciawtfbbq to serial adapters anyway? are they all a brazillion dollars?
I have crap in my glove box already thanks. also... I dont wanna bust off my dongle since I can't screw the serial cable to the port.

I can't say I'm terribly impressed with bluetooth. I have it on my toshiba laptop, treo, and palm/treo brand handsfree. It seems to have an incredibly short range and picks up and drops frequently. I don't ever use the bt headset because it just pisses me off to no end with its poor perfromance.
Do PCMCIA-to-serial cards work better than usb to serial adapters?!? I really want a new thinkpad but they don't have serial ports anymore. I'd gladly pay for a pcmcia adapter if it worked. Anyone?

but then i'd have to figure out how to wire that to a miata.
I think I'll try the BT thing and see what goes on. if anything it's a fun experiment.
except my email address is too short for sparkfun's account registration. duh. why are web admins SO DUMB.

Bringing this back from the dead. Y8s, did you ever set this up? I saw the megasquirt page Wireless bluetooth and Megasquirt Anyone know if the MSPNP has to have the pins jumpered on the serial connection as well?

that's a neat adapter they found. simpler than my approach.
but no, I never got around to doing this...
oh and I now use a PCMCIA-serial card and it's rock solid.
