Transformer Apartment
I'd live there. Pretty bad *** concept. I can see that being more common in the future, especially in big cities with small homes/apartments. I can imagine that in a slightly larger form, with automation and something like a touch pad to transform the rooms without touching anything. Even without the transforming, the energy savings along with making the space seems larger is pretty awesome too.

Yep. Lazy Americans wouldn't like having to manually move walls, so a touch of a button and a wait of 4 or 5 seconds would be far superior. If I could build something like that for a reasonable price, I wouldn't mind living in a slightly smaller home. Maybe 800-1000sq feet. Think of the savings every month. Only having to heat and cool one or two rooms and use less electricity (have it so when a room is not in use, everything within turns off). Of course with a family, you would need a larger home with separate rooms, but even applied in a larger home with enough rooms for everyone, this would still be something cool to do.

Yeah, big city this idea makes much more sense. In my area, you can get a modest apartment with probably 1200-1500sq ft for roughly $650-$800/month, depending on location and how nice of a place.

I have a pretty cool litte one bedroom, maybe 900SF. I can walk to two grocery stores, a library, about 10 restaurants, a thrift store, an autoparts store, about 6 bars, and other stuff. 475 a month. I just have to live in a city of about 200K. Oh the horror.
I did the city thing in PHX, which is probably as cheap a large city as you will find in this country outside Detroit. And even then it was plain not worth it. Traffic, shootings, endless bullshit. No thanks.

What do I got to do... Shove my wife in the bathtub and close the wall to get away from her? I'd rather just go upstairs and play on my computer on my very large desk that i don't have to pull down from some contraption.
