**** man! Squirrels are awesome...my daughter loves them and would cry if she saw this. Why would anyone do that? I still remember the clay pigeon thrower video...just wrong.

I'm not a softy or anything, but cruelty is cruelty, regardless of the size of the animal. It's not the recipient that makes it bad, but the source. Dog shitting in my yard?...I'll run the pooch off. Squirrel looking for nuts stepping into a trap?...cruel.

Plus now somebody has to clean the squirrel **** out of their wife's strainer...

 

I wish I knew how to get rid of all the damn pigeons in my neighborhood. I ******* hate them all and wish they would die.

Traps. Traps with a falling door mechanism. Then fatten them up on cracked corn or grain and eat them. They were originally introduced to America as game bird because they were a delicacy in Europe, and still are. They are served at many high line restaurants here in the states and throughout Europe, and are much more highly regarded than quail or dove. They are easy to clean and prepare. Just search for recipes.

Doves and Pigeons (squab when you buy them in a store) deserve their own category because they are dark meat birds with very little fat on them. You can use small ducks such as bufflehead or teal with these recipes, but they will often have a layer of fat that a pigeon or dove will not.
If you catch your own doves and pigeons, please – please! – pluck them and keep them whole. They are the easiest birds to pluck, taking only seconds once you get the hang of it. You get in return for your efforts a beautiful presentation and those little legs, which are so very tasty! Remove the wings from a dove (you can throw them into the stockpot, however) and all but the first wing joint on a pigeon (this is the “drumette” piece).
