However, their is a problem. 2000 to about 2006 were more problematic than prior years due to various changes in where and how they built the cars.

For example. If I had to recommend something for you id say a 2004 - 2006 CL600. You have an entire V12 to build up. Also has ABC. Fantastic technology that was banned in F1 it was so good. Problem is, its finicky as hell and prone to spontaneous failure. Their is no aftermarket replacement for the system and the components aren't cheap. Aside from that you have to deal with the flaky STAR system which used some strange interface between the computers which always caused a problem. I believe it was replaced in 2006.

So yea. Thats just one amazing car in their line. Everything else has its own quirks. I think the only one I found that people said universally is bulletproof is the CLK430 and anything with Airmatic or whatever it is that's not ABC.

BUT.... if you can handle the repairs to the ABC which are not difficult along with the parts, which are kinda expensive, the CL is probably the most car you can get for the money. Not to mention its exclusive as hell. Their just isnt that many of them period. If you got 50k to spend, get a 2006+. But it wont leave you much money for mods.

Dont get an early R/T. I havent looked at Vipers in a long time and Im took lazy to look anything up so youll have to verify, but Im pretty sure the early R/Ts didnt have A/C, Heat, or radio, and after a few years some of them became dealer options.

The GTS had it standard, has a stronger motor, and looks way more awesome.

Plus almost noone DDs a viper so most of them are really low miles.

I found this one on viper alley for 40k and it has like 8K miles. I have seen the GTSs as low as high 20s,

I disagree, his miata does/should/may (choose your own phrasing) have alot of power for a miata but Its not gonna be that fast.

Hes not gonna need 1K/800/700hp in a normal (heavier) car to be as fast as a 500hp miata.

Example I found an LS1 swapped miata that trapped 110MPH. Thats not that far off of stock LS1 fbodies or even GTOs which weigh like twice as much as a miata..

Same LS1 swapped miata on a 100 shot, so around 450hp trapped 120mph and heavier Z06s with a little more hp are trapping as high as 130 mph.

I guess what im trying to say is hp to weight isnt everything, there is alot more variables. 500 to 600whp Fbodys are everywhere go drive one that can hook and see how fast they are before you start talking 800hp and up.

Friends car's dyno, found out later it had a broken rear at the time of the dyno and hes probably got an extra 50-70hp now. Its built for road racing and autoX but it can still hook pretty good from a dig or low roll and its nasty. People hear about the 1k hp cars all the time and forget just how fast a 500-600hp car is.


A bone stock C6 Z06 will boogie even though it "only" has 505hp.
