Is it knock or clicking valves? ( i think knock)

It doesn't help that he was idling at 500 RPM and less. That is definitely not lifter/valve noise. The whole damn motor is shaking, i've seen cars do that when it doesn't have enough timing in idle and it's running too rich.

 

my motor shakes, but its only when the rpm's fluctuate due to intake leaks

Sounds like my KA24DE did just before it broke a rod at 237,XXX. I really hated that car.

 

That's not a tap or a knock. It sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders to me. I would pull all the sparkplugs and have a look at them. Make sure all 4 cylinders are getting fuel/spark. Run a compression test and leakdosn test. That sounds like a stuck valve to me. My friends nissan hardbody has a sticky exhaust valve and using marvel mystery oil will make it run smoothly for about 3K miles, then it sticks again. Add more mystery oil and it goes away.

 

Yep... the shaking and noise is very familiar. Thats running on 3 cyls. Definitely NOT valve noise.. valves sound like a very light tick.

then maybe my inline 4 is really an inline 3, i need to take it apart this christmas

 

my ka24de did the same thing, probably an injector. pull one injector plug off at a time and see which one doesn't make a difference. Mine must have had a bad connection because taking them on and off suddenly went back to normal

 

long screwdriver but up against your ear does the same thing, just put the end against each injector to listen for the ticking. Then pull each wire out a bit to see if you hear the ignition system working.

 

thats a timing belt tensioner on that motor
