The only problem with owning an AR at the moment is I live in California, so local law makes it imposable for me to own the AR I really want (with a magazine that I don't need a "bullet button" to extract, and one that holds more then 10 rounds too). So, for the moment I'm gonna have to buy a different cali legal gun and just buy a 49 state legal lower and keep it at home in Ohio.

Which 870 do I want to get for my GF?
Remington 870 Express Deer 12GA, 20 Inch Rifled Barrel, Rifl $368.00 SHIPS FREE
Remington 870 Express Deer 12GA, 20 Inch Improved Cylinder B $337.00 SHIPS FREE
Remington 870 Express 12 28 Rem-Choke Mod Wood $341.00 SHIPS FREE

Ideally I'll get a cheap 870 and build this:

I don't get it... you link 4 very different long-barrel dedicated hunting guns and show a picture of an obvious specific-build combat gun?

Shiny coating is that 870 is the factory nickel "marine" version.

I know you're a Remington guy, but Mossberg has you covered:
Mossberg & Sons | 50421

I'd link the Buds page, but it's been slow all week from the load.

+1 for the Mossberg 500. Excellent firearm.

I was thinking about an 870 from a pawn shop, but long barrel for clays. Should I get one for me and one for the gf?

I don't care which brand, I know nothing about shotguns.

Oh, I totally forgot! The other firearm I regret getting rid of was my Kahr PM9. I know they elicit polarized reactions, but mine ran like a sewing machine and was a pleasure to shoot given its size. Again, I'm not sure about your California considerations, but I would try to put hands on one if they are legal and available.

I agree with your reasons for selling it. They were similar to mine. It was a real looker, though.

Has she ever shot a 12-gauge pump shotgun before?

Love Kahr. The only time I've sold a Kahr is to buy another Kahr. I've had a K9 and P9 Covert in the past. Sold those and ended up with a P45 and a CM9 (budget version of the PM9). None of my Kahrs particularly liked Federal HST's, but shot everything else just fine.

Hustler, I've owned an 870 and 500 and thought both were of similar quality. To be honest any pump shotgun should be reliable for thousands of rounds regardless of brand. Items that might be usefull later down the road are ability to fire slugs, 3.5" shells, sights, weight, butt pad. If you decide to buy one please do not load it with slugs for home defense, they could go through several appartment buildings before stopping. Look for some low recoil buck shot.

For a good quality cheap HD shotgun, check out the H&R Pardner Protector at Academy Sports. It's a Norinco-built 870 copy. Look up some internet reviews, it appears higher quality than the low-end 870 Express models. Most 870 parts are compatible (barrels are not, but you can get replacement barrels from H&R/NEF).

Nice! It really pisses me of that an SBS stamp is so much more expensive than an AOW stamp.

Agreed brother... The $5 AOW stamp is awesome. We have a Serbu Super Shorty at the shop, but it's not very fun to shoot at all. The Mossberg 590A1 Tactical Entry is more up my alley even with the $200 stamp.

While I'm here... Here are some pics of me from a machine gun shoot our company (Palmetto State Defense) put on back in November. All the pictured guns are full-auto with the exception of the Barrett.
