I'm switching from MSM valve cover to a 99-00 valve cover because the spark plug holes are different between the holes for the wires and the holes for the factory coils on the MSM cover. 99-00 valve cover takes 4 plug wires.
I just updated my build thread with my mounting solution for my coils if you care to see. I'm just waiting on a set of plug wires now |
I just wanted to give you an update on my LS2 Truck coil swap. I just installed them tonight and other than me forgeting to reinstall the cam sensor everything went smooth. You DO NOT need a ignition module like on the Fab9 setup.

Here's a shaky but good shifting run from 20mph-100mph in 2nd, 3rd, and a little of 4th gear. I hope the video works, sometimes for me it does and doesn't |

Is it possible to make the GM coils work with the MSM valve cover?

It's not that the coils won't work with the valve cover its getting plug wires to seal in cylinder 2 & 4 where the stock coils normally fit. Take one of the coils off and try to fit a plug wire from one of the other cylinders and see how it sits.

I'm currently running Fab9 COPs and have long ago sold my stock setup. The thing is, I was able to get all my fab9 COPs to sit evenly after trimming the upper gaskets a little on the 2 and 4 cylinders. What to do what to do

I love your mounts but not ready to sacrifice MSM valve cover. I also asked around on the wires and apparently people are getting custom wires from Magnecor that fit both the different MSM cover holes with the same boots, so that problem is solved. It's just where to mount then and how long the wires can get before I start giving up performance
|
Yeah I figured you could get custom wires but I wasn't wanting to weld mounts onto the MSM valve cover and deal with the hassle of two different styles of wires.

No no that's what I'm saying, guys are running 4 of the same style wires and they seem to work with all of the holes on the MSM cover. Varied lengths depending on location of the packs themselves obviously. I'm too big of a ricer to get rid of my red cover :giggle:
If you're really just worried about the red then just get a can of VHT wrinkle red. The part that was hard for me was letting go of the "turbo" on the valve cover. Lol but how I wanted to mount the coils I would have ruined it anyways. Let me know if you run into any other issues though. |
I'll have to look around the bay to see where else I can possibly mount them. How long do yuo think the wires can be before I start losing performance? I was thinking if a long wire wouldn't be any less effective, I could mount them inside of the wiper cowl and run the wires through a hole? I wish the D585 fit behind the VC but some people are saying it won't. I'm tempted to replicate the FM setup, just get the mount, harness, and wires from them, and then buy the coils myself. I think it will be cheaper that way. Would run a different coil pack with that setup however. Not sure if it would fit back there with the M-Tuned re-route either. I'll have to give FM a call when they open.

So the FM big spark kit is what i went with, and the D510c coils.

New dyno runs with words of warning from the tuner: " Disregard the squiggle in the middle of the run. This was a byproduct of the new dyno screwing up. However, the rest of the run is good and represents what your engine is making. Your making about 300ft-lbs from 3800RPM to about 5200RPM. Your above 320hp from 6000RPM to over 7000RPM. That is an impressive plateau. When we get the car back on the dyno in the spring, 350hp and 350ft-lbs is a reasonable expectation. The dyno is working properly now, producing clean plots. It turned out AP Tuning was the 2nd shop to use the new Dynojet software package and it was not fully developed when they got it. They did a lot of trouble shooting for Dynojet."

I was gonna say, dat squiggle curve doe...
Hope you didn't pay for those pulls though, I would be mad if the dyno plot was screwy like that and I was paying for it. |

Got a set of 15x10 ULs coming soon, and have to cut the hood for the Singular NC Louvres. Car has been away since early december, and probably won't be back out until April or so, with the exception of going to get the wheels swapped and the hood cut. This is the time of year I "save" my miles since I'm only allowed 5,000 a year. |
great build, im a fan
