You think our turbos are small...

It had 9800 miles on it.
I think most people that buy ford passenger cars would rather have instant response vs lag and topend. Also, I may be wrong on this, but I think more fuel is wasted trying to get up to speed than cruising so a quick spooling mini turbo helps with fuel economy too.
In saying that,
That thing is micro *****. I would be ashamed to be in possession of said turbo.

Yeah tiny turbos are all the rave:
this is the ABARTH:
I remember thinking the diameter is about my silver dollar nipple size. (I realize I could have said just silver dollar size.)
Turbo on the Sonic:
this is a 1.4L that barely makes 100hp.
Ford ECOBOOST turbos:
built into the manifold:
Note that the wastegate is normally open and the wastegate uses vacuum to pull it closed. I also remember the turbo/manifold thing being bolted onto the motor kinda like a subaru up-pipe where there was just one exhaust outlet.
another ford ecoboost:
hey look, a silicone drain hose.
And finally, these are instruction on how to use a manual transmission, incase the ABARTH couldn't be more retarded:

I'm guessing the rust is because Michigan. That's just how it is up there.
I am also puzzled at the teeny turbos because smaller turbos actually hurt fuel economy.
When accelerating moderately it hurts economy to have boost. When cruising, you want minimum restriction for best economy. So the tiny turbo produced unneeded boost at lower throttle openings and unneeded restriction at cruising speeds. No wonder these little turbo motors never really achieve the fuel economy numbers projected.
Changing to a larger turbo on my old XR4Ti with no other changes netted me at least 3 mpg increase due to the reasons stated above.
