HarborFreight digital calipers FTW. At least they are FTW for for measuring things like this where you don't have to have perfect accuracy.

Yeah, they have one in store for $20, and there is a HarborFreight less then 30 minutes from me.

Started up the car to take it for a drive and do some tuning while i wait on a few parts to come in...there is a horrible noise coming from what sounds like the timing belt almost as if it was over tightened,it was done last year and i haven't heard this noise before and it gets worse when i rev the engine. Guess i'll be doing a timing belt as well now.

Hmm. Never heard of a timing belt suddenly making a horrible noise. That doesn't make much sense. Is it just a squealing belt? What kind of noise is it?

It really just sounds like an over tight timing belt. i'll have to get a video when i can, the tensioners look pretty beat up, i took all other belts off the car to see if it was another belt. I may try and break loose the belt tensioner and reset it.

Think i'll have to start a build thread..The timing belt noise was the belt rubbing on one of the covers, i must have smashed it when i was working near it.oops.

Major confidence boost with the car last night, i drove it nicely to the gas station letting the engine warm up, filled her up and went out for the furthest drive the car has had in over a year! Cruises great, still tuning for wide open throttle but i added a bunch of fuel up top towards 80+kpa to start a bit rich..i think i need to work on me Accel enrich, at idle if i touch the throttle it leans out and then is fine after that 1-2 seconds.
Also need to work on my idle afr, after the car warms up to 190ish coolant temp it starts to idle around 700rpm and at 15-15.5 afr. Auto tune doesn't seem to be correcting that, so i'll do it manually.
One thing i noticed is the car feels so slow, i keep thinking to myself "has it always been this slow, and my ND has just spoiled me?!". It does pull a bit to the right and i can hear the brake on that side, lots of rust build up on that rotor so i'm thinking that isn't helping the car move forward, new brakes time!

i can't wait to get this thing resprayed, it is currently about 4 different shades of white and looks horrible. My buddy has an 87 Nissan 200sx with the 3.0L V6 option. It was stolen and recovered but badly beat up, they tried to respray it with cans and ruined the paint. We are doing the body work on the weekends and will be respraying it, maybe ill do the NA Miata at the same time.

You shouldn't autotune your idle. Enable the idle VE table and tune it manually. There are a lot of threads on tuning idle.

Read up on tuning my idle, got that sorted out pretty decently, i also worked on my AE and that seems to be good. Now when i put the car into any gear with the clutch in the RPMs rise to about 2000..i am not sure what i did, but i need to read some more

Well, still chasing down this weird idle jump. If i'm in neutral everything is fine, but with the clutch pedal pressed down and trans in gear the idle jumps to around 2000. Not sure what to think and can't seem to find any solid answers..may just restore an older tune before the issue.
