Default Jumping into the miataturbo.net pool

Hello All. Time to chime in.
I’ve been searching through this sight for a while now, trying to educate my self on turbo systems.
I finished building a Miata based scratch built Locost this past spring. After auto crossing the car all summer, I have come to the conclusion that, the car is fast, I am slow, so the car needs to get even faster over the winter as I won’t.
I decided to go the turbo route. I initially had in mind, a basic Begi kit or the like, I reasoned 150-160 WHP would be a good step up on a 1300lb car. But then I read the ‘DIY FaQ - ALL your answers in one big post’ errr post, and the DIYer (cheap) in me kicked in.
Well that led to wanting a MegaSquirt as I didn’t want drivability issues that I’ve read go along w/ band aid systems. Well that means I can go with more boost! And so I have now collected a 255lph Walbro fuel pump, 450 injectors, a WRX intercooler, Inovate Wideband, IAT sensor, VPTS, and an HKS SSQV4 .
After much research, I was just about to order a DIYPNP when along came a MSlabs MS2 enhanced Megasquirt. Couldn't resist. Woohoo!!
Ya, your right, no turbo or mani yet. waiting for another member hear, near me, to get his MSLabs MS3 up and running before giving up his turbo and mani while he upgrades.
This is an absolutely amazing source of information, on the topic. I now know, enough to know, I have much learn. But then I didn’t know s**t about building a car before I built the locost, so looking forward to the journey here.

Welcome, I love this forum as well. I'm on here every single day. The information is clean, thanks to the Richards that don't like to see BS or lazy posts. I didn't like that, but its the only way to maintain the forum informative.

Me, too. But if I were able to rent one for a month in the summer, I think that would cure me of it.

Last time I drove one (okay, the only time), the whole bugs in the teeth / rollerskate in traffic thing was enough to convince me otherwise.

Go Beavers! (Orange and black)

What engine is in it? I'm guessing 1.6? Get the MS in with some '99+ injectors and a RB header, and you'll have 115-125hp depending on the health of your engine. A 150-160hp goal is pathetic. You can think bigger

^He's right. Add a megasquirt and a turbo, and a stock 1.6 block should be fine for upwards of 230whp with a few supporting mods like a better clutch, etc.

Errr, don't who the Beavers are but beavers are good, so Ya, go Beavers!

Yes a 1.6l 120,000km
the 150-160 goal was before doing reaseach here. now that I have been corrupted by MT and have the MS2 ya I'm expecting 230isH WHP
I also have a second 'donor car, so have spares if/when I overpower any parts of the driveline.

I'd been trying to get tunerstudio to connect ot the MS, with no joy. I had no documentation for it. Had gone through the megamanual troubleshooting giude with no resolve. everything indicated all was well from my end. I was begining to worry my MS was F'd. Tried to start the car for s**ts and giggles, of course it did not.

So I finaly contacted Reverent (should have done this from the start)
He got right back to me and sent me an email with instructions and the ini file. Still couldn't connect to tunerstudio. Thought I'd turn the key again (this time I unplugged the tps) and voila the engine started and ran (much to my suprise as The MS was set up for ITBs). Well that something.

i Kept digging on MT last night and found a post where someone had uninstalled Java 64bit and was successful in getting connected.

https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...8/#post1189227

I remembered I had not long ago installed Java 64bit, so of course I jumped out of bed, rushed downstairs, uninstalled java 64 bit, ran into the garage plugged my laptop in and connected, Success! Very exited.

I now have an MS that is comunicating with tunerstudio and runs the car!

Big thanks to Reverant for the promt response and getting me pointed in the right direction.

There are sometimes connection issues with serial to USB adapters.
