car will crank but not start 97 ms3x

The starter cranks just fine every time I turn the key. But there's no sound of it igniting or injecting fuel. While cranking the wideband works and it'll pin at 19 as no fuel is being injected. While Attempting communication with laptop it won't change from "not connected". I have the ecu currently sitting on my table tried using the printer cable and serial cable to power it up (without the db37 connectors) and it still says "not connected"

the only thing that I could think that would cause this is an intermittent short somewhere -- so the MS protects itself and you can't connect/run, or a loose power connection.
when the car wont start and you cant connect to the ecu with the to key ON, are you getting 12v to ECU (tan/red wire on your harness) or the injectors? It's run off the Main Relay which is behind the FUEL INJ fuse -- basically everything on the white/red power wire in the car (injectors, fuel pump, solenoids).

basically, that's the same wire. if the car dies/wont start & MS wont connect while still keyon, but you have 12v on that wire, then the problem is happening within the MS itself.
