gps take some memory. i personally wouldnt run gps app without at least 512mb of ram. and if its ddr2-533, even better. by the way, try to keep your memory size to minimum so you dont need bigger psu and your boot times decrease significantly.

i can not post any pictures of our products just yet for legal reasons, sorry
i will do so as soon as we have an approval form lawyer

well kids... some changes in company structure delayed release of these things but here are some sneak peaks:

this particular item is 1-din system. details:
via epia c7 1ghz
512mb pc3200 ddr400
100gb 2.5" ata hd
slot-loading dvd/cd-rw
m1-atx psu

this one is going to be installed in '06 x-runner along with lilliput 7" pop-up monitor and $3k worth of stereo equipment and fabrication. retail on this piece of equipment comes up to $1800 with monitor, software, and a LOT of itsy-bitsy items such as gps, bluetooth, wifi, driving camera, backup camera, wireless keyboard, etc etc.

ps: cat is not included.

Second release:
- Text to speech + Voice commands
- Bluetooth for hands-free calling
- Camera (backup and driving w/ night vision)

- Skins

Third release:
- Visual effects
- Integrated GPS navigation

Anything you might want to comment on or add?

Alot of these features are covered in every other front-end. Make one that boots fast and doesn't use winamp. heh. I like G-net for now.

There are many other solutions on the market today.

Interesting- I'd never seen that machine.

One thing to bear in mind is that the car-specific units often have a power supply which is capable of reading a switched 12v input and thus automatically switching themselves off and turning themselves on with the ignition, as well as surviving down to rather low voltages during cranking. A small thing, but something to look at.

Example: http://www.mo-co-so.com/M3-ATX-Mini-...mcs-atx-m3.htm

Yeah, I like the fitPC idea but I'm not sure you could fit one of the ignition sensitive PSUs in there. Mine uses the same case as the Mo-bo-whatever that you linked above and its roughly the size of a thick textbook. Perfect for mounting behind the passenger seat.

I did this back in the day, it was really cool but I sold it all to fund the new engine I needed. If I did it again, I'd probably start with a fit-pc.

I just built my version 3 of my Car-PC.

This time a fully integrated double-din unit.
I used this board/unit.

http://www.ieiworld.com/product_grou...93388965863098

It's a Atom 1,6Ghz powered board with 2GB RAM.

I built a DIY case from an old PC and put this 7" tft touchscreen in.

http://www.cartft.com/catalog/il/870

I would prefer if there is something like this out ther - as a pre built unit, rather then just another frontend. I use centrafuse and this does the job for me - an I know there are a bunch of other (even free) frontends out there.

Just my 2 cents...

If you aren't using Intel Atom D510 in your CarPC - you are a dumbass. I have several servers running on those CPUs and power draw is under HALF and amp on full load with 6 SATA drives spinning. ******* thing is fast for what it is!

You can even build it by just buying a mini-ITX board and slapping it into one of those enclosures they sell. I think that would be better since its much more customizable that way.

i know i'm asking for a lot of handholding here but the amount of research to figure all this out for yourself is too much.

For the guys that have done this already -- what motherboard, case, and screen did you use? or did you buy a prebuilt unit?

Anyone consider an asus eee box or aspire revo?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-266-_-Product

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-013-_-Product

regarding monitors -- are regular TFTs unreadable w/the top down? If you need to spend $600+ on a transflective screen i'm out!

I like that idea but how would you power it to the ignition source?
