i dont think you can use gps on your phone through pc unless you will find some drivers which will add simlink to your gps on another port (com usually).

good news for gps by the way! we might be finalizing contract with manufacturer this week so i will make sure to update you guys on pricing.

other good news: if you can wait a little bit (until we launch website) then you will find a coupon code here for 10% off! only for 5 systems though
so if your system ends up being $700, you save yourself $70! thats 2 tanks of gas or maybe some chrome for your interior. or it could be a sway bar or something like that!

I'm waiting for Brad to finish his, and then I'll make him duplicate it for me....however I believe he'd going the "move the radio to the glovebox" route to keep it easier and cheaper.

I run OpenBSD firewalls off of CF cards and have been doing it for years. Even with the fastest CF cards they are a little slow. And won't match a 7200rpm drive for speed. The other thing to keep in mind is that you will constantly be paging to disk with Windows. A CF card only has so many writes before it wears out. And using it as a harddrive with an OS like windows will beat the **** out of it.

I'd ditch the CF and just run a 2.5" laptop harddrive. I'd also consider moving to a much more light weight OS like Linux.

Linux will still load faster from disk than CF.

The OP said that Windows was included in the price of his setup. I was more answering the claim that it would load it 10-15sec off CF. Aint' gonna happen. Look at the read/write stats.

As for installing Linux on CF. You will want something like an IDE to CF adapter. From there you treat the CF card as a harddisk and install. So easy Magna could do it.

IIRC it depends on the PC having a radio tuner or not....since he doesn't want to bother with it, he's going to opt to move the radio itself into the glovebox, his 7" screen is filling the din. Then his audio out on the PC will connect to the radio's aux in.

but then your radio has to be turnd on. and how is the radio controled? Skip the wiring of the radio and wire to the speakears directly.

I would just buy a headphone jack to RCA output and wire the two speakers that way

You'd need a decent amp then, most likely.

It would be a lot easier if he put a am/fm tuner card in the pc. Then he'd have control and display in the center console, plus wiring would be easier. No switch box or anything needed.

You would need a car stereo amp, but I was assuming that everyone would have one anyway.

Urban what I would buy is the center console mounting kit with screen, You know the plastic surround that snaps into place. I hate that ****.

I'll put the screen in the dash, but the computer is going in the trunk.
I don't want a flip out monitor, and I'd rather have the pc hidden.
Only drawback is I can't change CDs while driving, but since I'll have an MP3 collection at my fingertips I don't care.

I'll probably make a blank out panel that covers the screen when the car is parked. Maybe do something like a abs plastic with a thin metal band around the inner perimeter, and glue magnets on the back side of the center dash console.

not really... we disabled a lot of stuff and with all our testing it should last at LEAST 2 years! now... with temp of technology growth, i dont think it would be appropriate to keep a 2-3 year old carpc
