Default Coil Pack clicking on Crank? Video inside.

I know I've been asking a lot of questions here and I am trying to learn as much as I can. Sorry for being a noob! I came into this project without anyone round to help me as I know no one that has actually done this.

Anyways the car seems to be running well now but it clicks on cranking. I have no idea why but googling seems to suggest a misconfiguration of my MS3x. Here is a video example of what exactly is going on, Im on mobile so hopefully you can view it, if not I'll fix it when Im home...

post your msq. trigger settings or dwell settings maybe?
that sounds really really bad, hopefully you don't fry the coil pack if that's what's making that terrible noise
you should also probably get a log and composite log

are you certain that noise is from the coilpack? if you unplug the coils and scrank do you not get that noise?

Im in LA now cus I needed to borrow another car I didnt want to damage mine. I'll see if I can have my brother unplug the coils and try and tell me the result. However, I had him try a few times to crank while I felt around and looked and it definately sounded and felt like it was coming from the coil pack or back of the engine. Is there something else back there that could make that noise? And I did post my ignition settings...do they look alright? Thanks in advance for any help or observations..

From the video it sounds loud almost mechanical.

I can't think of how the coils would make such a racket without you seeing sparks or smoke.

The plug disconnects easy enough as does the CAS.

Try producing the noise with the above disconnected.

The cranking settings can be changed too

I doubt itd be that loud. I'm going to have my brother unplug the coil pack and crank it to see if it still does it tonight, I'll post back with results.

Well, good news I guess. My brother unplugged the coil and it still makes the hideous noise. Maybe its the starter solonoid, I did accidentally cause a short and good amount of sparking with the starter when I was taking off the intake manifold to replace the gasket.

I DO still have a question though, who here has needed to use the "Spark Harware Latency" option? When I got the MS3x(it was from another car) it was set to 21usec. Is that something other people here have felt they had a need to finaggle with? And how do you figure out and calculate that anyways? I posted my MSQ and ignition settings so I hope if I have any obvious mistakes someone will point them out and correct me.

yeah, i was going to say it's the starter doing it.

hardware latency is something you should tune and something im too lazy to explain. one could google the answer.

I understand what hardware latency is, I guess I just am unsure of how to measure it or tune it. Does my MSQ have any glaring errors anywhere that have caught your eye? I'm learning and dont wanna damage anything. I understand how it all works but theres a lot of random settings everywhere that I am unsure about and what some of the specifics for a 1.6 Miata would be.

your lock the timing and rev the engine.

you tune the latency value to keep the timing locked in place. without it, you'll actually retard timing as you approach redline.

that value ensures that the timing you demand is always the timing that you end up with.

Lock the timing? Is that an MS setting? I dont remember seeing it under MS, and what do I have someone rev while I compare with a timing light?
