Default K, wondering about this MS thing.

Is it more worth it to buy the PnP or do the DIY in terms of overall cost? Time means not a whole lot to me since I have time to kill. I was thinking the Greddy Emanage because I'm not going for grotesque amounts of power. However, I've been hearing nice things about MS... thoughts?

1 If you can solder do a DIY
2. DIY costs maybe 300$
3. PNP costs what 600$ i dont remember exactly.
4. If you trust yourself working on circiut baords then DIY

Look at this list to see if MS is right for you. Personally the only one i agreed with was the 300$ one but my buddy adam was ok with the rest so i got my stuff done for a very good price.

PnP is close to $740.

DIY is closer to $400, depedning on what you buy.

yeah. If I was building a MS and idnt have a WBO2, then I'd build a JAW at the same time.

my assembled ms 1 pcb3 + lc1 + assembled harness + sensors cost me around $600-650. and that was a good deal since my ms unit was THE last one spark and fuel sold. they are completely out of units now so no deals for anyone else

oh, and that includes "powered by megasquirt efi" license plate frame

I just built one for Rappadan here for under $500, would have been less if the EBC wasnt included, and if I didnt charge him a nomial fee to build it.

If I can get a source on connectors (which I believe I can now) then the cost of the boomslang is cut more than half. and thats about 1/4 of the cost.

I could build a MS with JAW wbo2 (with all mods done, and 95% PnP) for somewhere in the $450-500 mark, would have to see the total cost and crap, plus a few to ship of corse.

no, it's table based, and the table was something like 8:1 - 30:1, he scaled it down with the last revision of the software so it has higher resolution where you acutally would need it.

This is what I have, the only thing that isn't PnP is the GM AIT, everything else should be plug and play. Remove narrowband and toss in the wideband. Everything is fully reversible so you can return to stock.

adding everything up, I could do a:

MS DIY (with intake sensor)
95% PnP Harness
JAW WBo2 (with sensor & w/o display)

for $525

If you want EBC, add $40 (solenoid and all)

Did I mention I want to be stealthy on the install. i.e.- Underhood there would be little question as to what one was looking at? Recently CHP enacted a spoken rule that they would be targeting a certain vehicle/driver. That would be a visually modified import vehicle with a 18-34 year old Azn male at the helm. Profiling and racist, yes and I fit that profile to a T.

Anyways... could we get a glossary for the terms on an MS too? Also, where are the good sources of MS stuff?

the only thing you'd see under the hood is the intake temp sensor, unless you retain the AFM/MAF, then there would be no change.

go to megamanual.com and msefi.com

You want the display. Period.

Would the PnP Harness work with the 99-00? If so, I'll take the package! Sounds sweet.

no one has a pnp harness for the 99 yet there are only a hand full of 99's running now i don't know if the mods are significant;y different for an NA-an NB but Braineack, or cjernigan would i think it is unlikely but have been wrong before

I have built one before, wasn't too hard but fairly time consuming if you want things neat. Ended up selling the completed unit. When I want MegaSquirt again I will just buy the MSPNP one or maybe the V3 surface mount board.

here's why it's 95% PnP.

The wires that are not wired are:
Fuel Pump Ground
WBo2
Intake Temp
EBC

Take care of that and a vacuum line and your home free!

Braineack, do you think you could put one together that would work for a Subaru 2.5 liter engine? My neighbor wants to get a 2.5 for his sand rail and just needs rudimentary engine management.
