Default MSPNP Running. USB and Sertial port problems. What do you use.

I got my MSPNP 90-93 going! It started right up.
Went out and bought a $30. serial to usb adapter! ??????Why do they give us that crap! They should of at least had that on the ebay site. And had a proper option.

Anyway, I go out and buy a $100 timming light. I wanted the nice digital one. I am all excited to use all the new toys and the adapter doesn't work with Vista!

I have no problems with vista until now. I am unhappy that this thing does not want to just plug up and work with a modern computer. Why doesn't MS update the port? No one uses serial ports anymore.
I could of set the timming and installed my injectors tonight.

Anyone have VISTA. And what do you use?
I should of put this in the MS section. I couldn't delete it.

I don't use Vista but I use the Radioshack adapter. The Belkin adapter is garbage so stay away from that one.
I know Savington uses the one that diyautotune sells and he has vista so it must work fine and its affordable. I think you can get them at Fry's even.

First time I read through that I was trying to figure out why you'd want to plug your timming [sic] light into your laptop...

Although my tuning tablet runs Win2k, this is the adapter that I use, and I understand that others have had good luck with it as well: http://www.iogear.com/product/GUC232A/

Anyhow, congrats on bringing yet another Megasquirt into the world.

The word is "have" not "of". You're welcome.

Hey thar,

I have an Dell Inspiron 1521, running Windows Vista Home Edition, and I just went to Best Buy and bought the Serial to USB adapter that they had there. $30 and it worked great, no problems at all.

Thanks,

Im going to try to re-install it yet again. And if it doesn't work, I'm going to read the sticky and check the speed.
Otherwise, I am going to borrow my brothers laptop. He needs a battery. Yea, I'll have a extension cord out the patio to the car. LOL.

Default Had to get rough with the Radio shack guy.

I took the cable back to radio shack. That punk said I DONT TAKE RETURNS ON ELECTRICAL!! And flopped his hands like for me to leave and Im his punk.
I put both hands on the table and leaned into him and sternly replied. WELL THEN YOU SHOULD OF SOLD ME THE RIGHT PART! CAUSE I ASKED YOU WHICH ONE I NEEDED! AND THAT IS THE ONE YOU GAVE ME!

He changed his tone and exchanged it. I was being extra nice too. Why people mistake friendliness for weakness I will never know.

The other guy was cool. He was new. I hope that ***** doesn't give him a hard time for selling me the wronge thing. The package said win 98 and newer. But when they looked it up it was discontinued, and they had a newer cable for vista.
There was no way for the new guy to know that.
The ***** told me that it would of worked, but it had to be downloaded to an XP computer and transfered to an flash drive and transfered over. That sounds like crap to me. I asked what is the difference of htat and the disk?
He said I don't know.

I'm surprised that guy gave you a problem.

I used to actually return one of their cig. lighter to 12v accessory plugs on a regular basis, they'd just grab a new one off the shelf, take my old broken one, and no questions asked, I just leave with new cord.

And don't worry about the extension cord out the door, I did that once, and then I said "**** it" and got a laptop just for the car.

Good luck, sir.

Flame guard on.

I'm in Texas. We may have a different slang. But we make up for it in beer and larger genitals.

So is it working now?

I got the adapter from DIY. On the initial install on my laptop, running Vista, didn't recognize it, and I asked it to search online for the driver software. It did that, and it has worked ever since, well, Friday.

Having Corona and women with wide vaginas does not make you win.

Yea, it is working great. I only had to change the timing adjustment to 58.
Everything was going great until this afternoon. At 5700 RPM it acted like the key was shut off. And when the RPM fell it picked up like everything was alright.
I need to attach the laptop and monitor it again. I drove yesterday and everything was on the dot. Idle droop was present some. But it isn't that bad.

Cool. Sounds like you need to adjust your overrun just a tad. Since you changed the timing, it may be a good idea to recheck your TPD dashpot and your overrun settings. I don't know if they go hand in hand, but they follow the timing set up.
