Default No spark when cranking

I an not getting any spark when cranking. When I use the spark output test mode i can get spark. I an not receiving a RPM signal when cranking and i think that might be the cause but I am not sure what to check now. The car is a 2004 Mazdaspeed miata and I'm using an MS3X. I followed the wiring instructions on turbokitty.com and I'm using the turbo kitty basemap and firmware 1.4.1. I have attached the .msq composite log and data log.

Thank You

It ended up being one of the potentiometers not being adjusted properly but now the megasquirt is causing the battery to drain overnight. Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix?

What troubleshooting have you done to confirm the megasquirt is causing the drain?

I was able to work on the car and confirmed that the megasquirt is causing the issue. With the stock ecu installed and the keys out of the ignition there is a current of only 7mA. When I install the MS3 the current is a little over 3A with the keys removed. I also noticed that with the megasquirt plugged in and the keys removed some of the dash lights are lit very dimly. I found someone with a similar problem to me on post number 14 of this thread https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...f-94001/page2/ Their fix was to use an injector output or WLED for the main relay. I am currently using INJ G for the radiator fan can I switch that to Nitrous 1 and use INJ G for the main fan? Otherwise it looks like I can wire the WLED to pin 3 on the megasquirt but I am not sure how to do that. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I am actually experiencing the same thing with my megasquirt. Same battery drain and lights on dash. I followed trubokitty assembly for a mazdaspeed miata. My main relay is hooked to the nitrous 1 pin on the megasquirt.Look up this thread for all the info https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...7/#post1649967

Thanks for your help.

For what it's worth, I initially had the same issues with battery drain post ms3. The reality was that my battery was kinda Shakey. I bought a battery charger from a local tractor supply and ran it in recondition mode. Afterwards it ran like a champ and doesn't drain out anymore.

Hi, upon further researches it seems like I have two options:

1- Physically solder an npn transistor with the ignition power on the base and connect the main relay to the emitter and ground the other pin so when the ignition turns on this puts the main relay to ground thus activating it. I'm not even sure if this would work.

2- Programmatically in tunerstudio and try what have been said above. Switch one of the fan on an unused injector output to nitrous1 and use the injector output to control the main relay. I don't know how to do that in tunerstudio. Maybe I could use some help.

How does the 01-05 not mazdaspeed miata manage to work if the main relay (pin 3h) isn't used (Following the harness plan on trubokitty)?

@Braineack , I just found out you are the man behind this. How do I solve this problem. It seems like maybe the msm basemap could nessesitate an update.

Hi, actually I stumbled upon this thread by reading on this forum https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...f-94001/page2/
where you were helping someone around 2017 with the same problem I'm struggling currently. If you go on your website (trubokitty) right now you can see on the wiring mapping that for an NB 01-05 miata the 3H pin (main relay) isn't used. And for an MSM like mine it is hooked to the nitrous1 on the expander board. Seems like both 01-05 NBs and MSM schemas are not correct.

What I plan on doing on the next days is a swap of wire for the fan (INJ F) and main relay (Nitrous1) on my harness, and a little remapping in the tunerstudio tune to make it work. I now know how to do it.

I'm confused. I apologize If it may sounds like I know more than the reality. The truth is I'm trying to understand what is wrong with my assembly.

If I take a step back. Since the backfeeding seems to be coming from the 3H (main relay), hooked to the nitrous1, is there a possibility that my problem is related by the flyback mod I did here? https://www.msextra.com/doc/pdf/html...e-1.4-232.html

it seems like this was optional and is used for an engine with VVT. Since I have an MSM, there is no point in doing this mod?

Flyback mod is 100% NOT optional.

You can try swapping the outputs to 3H. It's been so long, i dont really remember this being an issue.

I went back and looked, and yeah, in 2017 i discovered this issue.

So i suggest swapping injector g (fan) with nitrous 1 in your db37 connector. And then swapping the settings from each in the programmable outputs menu.

I'm updating the documents on my website.

Yes! That was it! I did the swap and no more dim lights on dash. The car also started first try.
