ladies and gentleman i come to you tonight in my darkest hour I have been up every night of the last week and a half. All I'm trying to do is get mar car running again, but i cant even get one if the three laptops i have to establish any kind of connection with my MS.

so quick little background this is a mspnp unit built by braineak it was running fine having been tuned by a pro shop about three years ago. Then the engine spun a rod bearing so i started the ever long process of rebuilding it. since then I've moved 4 times gotten married and even survived a pandemic, the last one I'm kind of regretting at this moment. the car is a 92 with a 1.8 swapped fully forged engine t25 turbo.im running all stock ignition systems and RX8 yellow top injectors.

so on to what i have tried so far. its worth nothing that when i say i tried something i tried it on three different laptops 2 using the usb converter "hassle free" sold by diy autotune. the 3rd computer i went out and bought just to see if the damn thing would connect to a computer with a true serial drive.

i have tried re-installing , updating , the drivers (to my knowledge I've done this best i know how it may not be right but i think it is)
I have tried getting power off the miata harness to make sure its receiving a power supply. it was getting 12 volts
i have sent it off to be looked at by someone recommended by DIYauto at the very beginning because suspected it was damaged he said it was fine.
i have tried plugging it in each of the laptops ports individually
i swear i have tested damn near ever port and baud setting ive ever seen my computer display
i had a guy from my local Miata community come look at it today with his laptop and he has a running megasquirt in his car.
i have used the port detector file provided by DIY it says i have two open ports.
i have tried just about everything i can think of and I'm still not getting jack ****

its worth noting that when we initially just tried to start the car or get timing i was not getting any spark from the megasquirt but would from the stock ecu. i say it this way becuse it may also have been my friends really shitty timing light but i don't know i haven't tried since then. i was having to replace a crank pulley instead.

i have to be honest with everyone in here this was my very first car i bought I've kept it nearly 8 years now and have gone through engines trans a rear end and a ton of mods. i have loved this car like its my own flesh and blood. it has truly been one of the great joys in my life and i don't want that to change, but i am so damn frustrated I'm at my damn wits end! its been broken 3 years and i just feel like its to far gone at this point.
PLEASE SHOW ME IM WRONG PLEASE HELP ME FIX THIS!!!!!!! NO LIE I WILL EVEN PAY YOU.

They could not connect either?

When the USB adapter is plugged into the laptop (dont plug it into the MS yet), does it show in device manager as a serial adapter? if not, does it show some kind of unknown device?

My troubleshooting steps would be:
-above^
-Make sure comX is correct for the port being used in detect page of ts
-proper/updated drivers for cable and usb ports
-junk cable?

so the cables are new from DIYautotune. yes the guy from a local page who came and helped me could not connect either. it shows it as "usb serial port com4".
I really have no clue what I'm doing wrong here.

I was having connection issues with my no-name serial USB until I bought the $12 dollar "Sabrent" brand cable from Amazon. I went into device manager and changed the bit rate to 115200, and switched the port to COM1 and it worked like a charm. Connected instantly. It worked with my friend's old Windows Vista laptop as well as my newer Windows 8 laptop. You said you already tried playing with the port settings though so that's as much advice as I can give. So this evening with my older laptop direct serial port connection I tried using a power source out of the car i ordered and it connected perfectly. WHAT THE HELL?!
I swear i checked and i had 12v power on the harness. What gives ? what could be causing this?
what wiring should i check. i will also note that the starter is now having trouble but i think that's from cranking the motor to much.
i also replaced the battery for good measure.

Anyone got anything?

maybe someone could tag revenant or braineak I'm not to sure how too on this forum.

I'm having the exact same issue, I've sent mine back and had them reinstall the original firmware and tune file to see if it would work. I wish I had more answers for you but I'm commenting just to follow the thread. does your fuel pump kick on and run non stop? are any of the 4 lights turning on when plugged into the car??
