Im in the process of installing MSII v3.0 with EDIS in my 90 miata. I am looking for ideas on the best locations for the temp sensor and IAT sensor.

Coolant temp anywhere you can get to flowing coolant... I've always used the stocker.

IAT, just before the throttle body in the intake plumbing.

I have my CLT in the upper radiator hose (adapters at $20 on Ebay) and the IAT in the Xover tube.

I'll snap a pic tonight.

 

won't that give an inaccurate reading, due to being after the thermostat not before it

 

Depend on your definition of "inaccurate" is.

This will report the HOTTEST reading possible from how I understand the water flow. The water flowing past the sensor, just came out of the head and hasnt hit the radiator yet. The only problem I have is the car isnt happy running hard until the t-stat opens.

I dont know if there is a right or a wrong answer on this one. This was the easiest for me to tap into.

Anyone else care to chime in?

 

err, not accurate, not precise etc.... :P

but until the t-stat opens you're not getting a reading of the *actual* engine temp, which is the most important thing as this is one of the sensors the ECU uses to determine how much fuel is required, is it in warmup mode etc

probably cos the ECU thinks the engine is colder than it actually is, see above

there is definately a right and wrong answer and I think the fact that your car tuns like toss until the T-stat opens is evidence of which is correct.

coolant based advance/retard & fueling (cold start enrichment)

and dont you wanna be able to log your coolant temps or anything else you possible can?

no the PnPMS utilises the stock sensor with an edit of the settings (all automatic)

I fitted the GM sensor to save that hassle

 

errr so the ECU knows how hot/cold the engine is.....
