While I keep staring at that shopping cart and thinking how nice it'd be to cruise at something around 2900 I'll have to exhibit some self control and pass. Would be interested in a group buy though if the price came down a bit.

$625 shipped isn't that bad...I think the 636 will be what I want though.

 

To put it in perspective, the 3.63 gears new from Mazda run you in the $525-575 range.

 

I'll live with the 3.9 for now and watch for a set of 3.63 along the way. I have too much other crap to put together.

 

The 3.63 is the perfect gear for me with the 6speed and 300whp. It is still pulling at 150mph with plenty of room to go faster than I need to go well above that. It also cruises at a really nice RPM at 80mph compared to stock 4.10 gears. It isn't so tall that I need to downshift to make enough power to run up to 90mph to pass another car quickly. And first gear is definitely useful and needed with the 3.63's where it wasn't previously.

i am really happy with the set of 3.6 i got fro giani, like sixshooter says it is the perfect set for a 250 to 300 hp miata🙂

I am pretty sure some of the higher HP track guys have topped it them out. Almost positive I have heard Sixshooter talk about getting into the mid 160'smph at Daytona.

 

Hey, definitely interested in a set, I'm doing an exhaustive 1.8 swap into my 90, including a 6 spd. I'm still learning about a lot of this stuff, so my question is, before I take this to a shop to have the gears swapped, is there anything else i should make sure I have to replace in the diff when it gets rebuilt? Wear items or i read something about crush sleeves? I'm doing my homework but requesting a little if possible.

I only hit 150.x mph at Daytona last time with the 3.63s. I was having other technical problems so I wasn't making full power, only about 250whp. I had plenty of gear left to go faster.

It made me want a full cage rather than a rollbar and door bars.
