In preparation for Larz new better flowing manifold when that comes I decided to upgrade to a cxracing 60ar/63ar dual ball bearing, billet wheel from my still new never mounted 60ar/48ar compressor side ball bearing turbo.
That looks to be far more of a change than just the turbine AR and more ball bearings. BIG increase on the compressor wheel. Will you take some measurements to compare the two? I suspect the spool difference between those two will be significant. I'll also suggest that all china turbo buyers carefully scrutinize their turbos and check torque on all hardware. One of my last two purchases did not meet advertised specs and both had loose hardware.

I did measure both and surprisingly both compressor and turbine on both turbos spec'd out exactly as what was advertised. The billet wheel turbo has a .3" larger exducer and a slightly larger inducer. I forgot to measure the actual blade length from stem to blade edge when I had it all apart. And I agree double check all the bolts. On the turbo I got originally for the MkTurbo kit the compressor side were all pretty loose. When my daily isn't broken anymore I'll slap on the 6063 BB and see how it acts and what kinda spool I get ill report back which I like better.
Now the 60/63 billet wheel I'm hoping with the dual BBs spool won't be affected too much and be comparable to the 6048 turbo but we will see. The secondary blades were a little hard to get to, to measure the sweep angle of the blade and blade length but I tried my best
That's a big compressor wheel- about the size of an eBay GT3076 and bigger than a 57 trim T4. The wheels play a larger roll in spool/power than the AR does. The older turbo looks like a T40B copy- less efficient/older design. Are the turbine wheels the same size? It also looks like the big turbo inducer comes up much further/higher at the center- so the fins have more surface than the smaller turbo.

The turbine wheels are close to the same size the 60/63 is a smidgen larger. I didnt take a second measurement of the turbine cause the housing is covered in machine oil. I should note im not looking for the quickest spool. I mostly do highway Mexican driving so my setup prob isnt ideal for what most people are looking for.

Also Both are T04B turbos atleast according to the listings
Wheel size is one of the things that dictates the T04B spec- among other things like fin blade/number (6 vs. 7), profile, angles and measurements (like the height diff). No doubt the two compressor wheels you have are similar, but also different. They reality with eBay/china turbos is that there's no telling what they copied, and that the name may have nothing to do with the wheel. Afaik, Garrett T series compressor wheels were 6 major 6 minor fins/blades (similar to your small turbo). My eBay t3/t4 50 trim has 6 and so did my Garrett t3/t4 50 trim.
fwiw- Garrett specs the T04B wheel as follows:
(inducer - exducer)
2.18" / 55.37mm - 2.75" / 69.85mm
Which is close enough to your small turbo.
IMO - if it's a street car, who cares? Really only matters to you and what you like.

When you want to really jump to the big boys club I have a nice Artech setup with a 4" exhaust and a huge BW in my garage that is perfect for 600whp Mexican drug runs.

if you cant run drugs at 60hp, you cant run drugs at 600hp.

Ah i didnt know that. I thought it came down to housing design, didnt know the wheel specs played a role as well. Good info man thanks!

I'll keep that in mind when i get around to building my motor
Since I’m not a turbo engineer, I’ll just ask- is there a theory emerging that the new churbos spool better than the old ones?
I havent heard anything like that. I'm just testing and seeing what kind of power to value i can get. Also they were running a sale the day i bought the ball bearing turbo so that played a role in me buying it lol
pink? are you crazy?
you can't post that and use anything but purple get it together n00b
Purple looked wrong in the selection, so i just made a guess when i typed all that garbage with the necessary BB code manually. You wanna pillow fight about it?

the thought that the sweat shops knocking off 80's turbo's would actually put in the effort to design and engineer or even more accurately knock off the original part, is hilarious in and of itself
